A new life

Nick pulled her into a tight hug. "I'll be your friend. I just want you to know that I want to be something more. I don't I will ever understand why you left me though" he told her as he tried to block tears. Nick stood there and hugged her for a moment. Finally he let go. "I need to go make dinner for Quelyn. You are welcome to stay, but nothing is stopping you from leaving" he said figuring that she would want to go see Raphael.

"So Quelyn" he said as he walked down the stairs. "What would you like for dinner. I have spaghetti, or I have mac and cheese, or I will fry chicken" he offered as he walked towards her and crouched down.

Cecilia stayed upstairs long enough to compose herself before calmly descending the stairs. Quietly she watched the exchange between nick and Quelyn, she was going to have such a better life now that she had nick. quietly she lifted her finger up to her lips in the be quiet motion knowing quelyn would see her. She sat down on one of the steps and carefully watched what nick did once the younger girl answered his question, knowing she would be good for nick. He needed someone like her, someone who needed him.

Quelyn as stared at the television un-sure how to work it. She had never seen such a contraption in her life, but when nick returned her eyes returned to his calm face. "Chicken please," She said not to fond of not having some type of meat for her food when she did eat, which was quiet seldom. "Unless Cecilia would like something different." She added at the end trying to be nice to their guest. If there had been one thing she had any hope of retaining from her parents it would be her manners. If she had not shown them around her father he would have gotten so angry at her, yet i had not been the angriest she had seen that cranky old man who appered to be in his teen years still.

"Well I believe she is still upstairs" he told her. Nick turned around to see Cecilia sitting on the stairs. He had not heard her come down and was quite surprised to see her. "Oh, Cecilia I did not hear you come down. Would you like something different?" Nick asked. Looking over he could tell Quelyn didn't know how to work the tv. He walked over and picked up the remote and held in front of her. "This red button is the power. This up arrow is channel up. The down arrow goes down a channel. The right arrow turns up the volume, whereas the left arrow turns the volume down" he explained.

"No, fried chicken sounds delightful," Cecilia said smileing at the girl. she used the railing to aid in helping her to stand and continued down the stairs to the ground floor. She found it hard that the young girl had never seen a television. "I could show you how to work it while Nick cooks dinner," cec offered going to sit on the couch infront of the tv. "Come sit by me," she spoke quietly and sweetly trying to reasure that she did not want to hurt her. "We could watch a movie about a dog. or maybe one about a bellarina

((I'm just going to fast forward to when Nick finished cooking. ))

-About an hour later-

Nick finished cooking finally. He grabbed three plates and three cups and set them up on the dining table. He filled the cups with orange kool aid and put the food on plates. Nick gave Cecilia and Quelyn two pieces of chicken and mashed potatoes, while giving himself three pieces. Quietly he walked into the living room, not wanting to disturb their movie. "Dinner is done, it's at the table" he told them before he walked back into the kitchen/dining room.

"Can you make it stop?" Quelyn asked looking up at Cecilia not wanting to miss any of the movie. Panicky she looked over at the kitchen and Nick then back at the television. "Daddy didn't have one of these." She explained why she didn't know how to work it. She got up and skipped over to Nick putting her arms around him and giggling. "What other fun things do you have here?" She asked looking up at him with her big brown eyes in anticipation and wonder. "Lets go eat!" she exclaimed running out of the room over to the table where she had to sit on her knees to be able and see properly at the table, as she was so small for her age.

Nick smiled as Quelyn moved about the house. She was happier than she had ever been. When Nick saw that Quelyn couldn't see properly he went and grabbed two throw pillows. "Here Quelyn, sit on these" he said as he held them up. "Cecilia, in here. C'mon you need to eat something" he told her. Nick felt happier than he has been recently. Happy that he had Quelyn, and happier that he and Cecilia would be friends.

Cecilia paused what they had been watching and got up fallowed the two into the kitchen/ dining area. Sitting across from Quelyn she giggled at how she had sat on her knees. "One day that won't be a problem." She assured the small girl with a smile remembering when she had once been too short to see at the table. But, that had been a long time ago seeing as she was rather tall with long long legs. "Are you going to say a prayer or something?" She asked, she never remembered doing so at home when she was little but it would be good for Quelyn to have something or someone to beleive in.

When Cecilia said something about prayers Nick was confused. Nick had never really said prayers. Yes he believed in God but he never said prayers. "Um I don't know any prayers. We really never said them at our house" he said softy. "So how's the food. Do you have any allergies" he asked worryingly. Nick worried about Quelyn. Would she know if she had allergies. She rarely ate at home, but she would know? She had to know.
