Looking back now, Adriana was already convincing herself that the masquerade ball had been much more fun than she had been having while actually in attendance. The easily bribed waiters had flooded champagne into Adriana's system and she felt incredibly awake for it being nearly onein the morning. Everyone had left the party by now, apperating back to London, returning up to the dorms, or scattering out into the gardens to 'snuggle' until a teacher came a broke them up. Adri had chosen none of these options, instead saying a warm goodbye to the unknown boy she had danced most of the night with and heading outside solo. It was chilly outside but the warmth of the alcohol running through her veins kept her comfortable.
With unnecessary flourish, Adriana undid her black masquerade mask and tossed it aside into the bushes. The autumn air hit her face and shocked the senses, waking her up even more. Gleefully she pranced down towards the icy waters of the Black Lake, which she could see perfectly outlined by the light of the nearly full moon. She felt remarkably like a princess right now in her gown. A position she felt she thoroughly deserved, not only on this night but always. Around her other Hogwarts students were walking off into the further corners of the grounds, searching for their own private hidey holes. The more she walked the more uncomfortable her high, high, heels became and soon Adriana felt that they were much to unbearable to walk in at all. So she bent down and pulled the sparkly things off, relief instantly spreading to her toes.
Time and distance became blurred in her mind and Adriana slowly made her way down to the beckoning call of the lake. At some point she had managed to drop both of her shoes from her butterfinger hands, as if leaving a trail of formal wear to find her. When the lake stood in front of her, expanding out in every direction, she gave a satisfied nod and plopped herself down on the cold ground. Pulling her wand from were it was secured inside of her dress, she said a quick spell and a large ball of green light emerged from the tip. The sphere was the size of a beach ball, floated many feet in the air, and illuminated the ground around her. Soon she was able to imagine that the edges of the glow were actually the edges of her world and she felt safe and amazingly secure in this bubble of solitude. The glowing blob was emitting some heat, keeping her bare shoulders warm.
Adriana considered laying down and taking a rest right here but after a few seconds she realized that she was much to awake to be going to sleep anytime soon. So she pulled out her wand again and twirled it, making different color sparks shoot out of the end and form shapes in the air. They died quickly and she enjoyed the challenge of keeping the sky alight with her own personal fireworks show. She let out a little shriek as one spark didn't quite fizzle out, hitting the ground and momentarily catching the brown leaves on fire. The mixture of lights that she had concocted excited her and illusion of royalty was only enforced by the fairy lights that seemed to surround her. It was a happy world that she would live in tonight.
