Exhaling a breath of smoke, Elijah Krum looked up at the revered Black Residence: Number 12, Grimmauld Place. Grimmauld Place itself was dated and almost ruined yet people still defiantly took up residence in the houses there. Elijah was impressed with the resolve of some of the Muggles but he’d not been as impressed with them as he was when Number 12 shuffled out from between Numbers 11 and 13. He’d not been expecting such a sharp contrast to the rest of the street but when he’d set eyes on it, he understood immediately why Sirius Black was rumoured to hate it so. It was not a picturesque home where good memories were going to be made. It was bound to be the opposite if nothing else. Elijah threw the cigarette into the drain and pushed himself off of the lamppost that he was leaning against. He rubbed his hands together, the night air oddly damp and chilly for July and it smelt as if a storm was coming. It was the scent of foreboding, the smell of oncoming rain.
Looking to the left, Elijah watched as a beat up old Ford rumbled down the cobble road, the occupants taking a moment to stare at him as if he had three heads before shaking their own and putting his appearance to the back of his mind. Elijah had donned a new set of robes that he’d purchased the other week, determined to break them in, and so to Muggles he looked terribly odd. Looking to the right, the road appeared to be clear and Elijah briskly crossed the cobbled road to the other side of the street where the steps that lead up to Number 12 fed onto the street.
Elijah ascended them quickly and then reached for the door, the handle seemingly recognising his magic as friendly and turning easily under his loose grasp. Elijah stepped inside the house and immediately, something bizarre caught his eye: Walburga Black covered in a bizarre mask of make-up. Elijah smirked, shaking his head a little, and then turned to where he could hear voices, assuming it must be the kitchen, and headed that way.
Opening the door to the kitchen, Elijah descended the short steps and onto the main floor where immediately his eyes caught sight of a Labrador pup. He knelt down, a smile coming across his face, and he held out his hand for the dog which promptly ran towards him and nuzzled his palm in greeting. Elijah smoothed back the pup’s fur and couldn’t help but notice that it really didn’t smell as one would expect a dog to smell. It almost smelt human, if that was at all possible. Elijah picked the puppy up after a moment and rose back to his full height, cuddling it close to his chest. He caught sight of Khaat and smiled knowingly at her before sitting down next to Kate.
“You’ve got a very nice puppy here, Kate.” Elijah complimented, stroking the pup’s head. “Do I need to ask of her name?” Elijah laughed a little and looked at Kate before murmuring quietly. “She smells like Abbey. Do I even want to know why and how she ended up like this?”
