Cecilia,
I can tell you have a passion for people and you want people to be treated well, but, as the mother of a child who has developmental disabilities (mental retardation), I can tell you that it is very offensive for a great many developmentally disabled people when they hear you use the term "retarded" to mean anyone who is rude or behaving in a stupid way. And it isn't language we use here on PA. Developmental Disabilities (or the old mental retardation term) are legitimate problems, and when you use that same wording in an attempt to put someone else down, either to their face or behind their backs, it is hurtful to the people who really do have those issues to deal with every single day of their lives.
I do understand that its probably habit for you to use that term to describe things that you really don't like. On PA, though, you really do have to not use that term that way. Its not appropriate. In future posts, please do not use words for disabilities to put down someone else. Learn to rephrase things to say exactly what you mean. If someone is rude, then just say that. If someone appeared to just be making a stupid choice, then just say it. Name calling is not okay. Not here, not ever.
Its okay to be angry and frustrated. We all experience that. And being able to use this thread to rant is okay too. But using a term that refers to a disability as a put down for someone else? No. Not cool. I'm telling you to stop it now.
