Class ideas

I'm very new here and am about to start posting in classes, but as someone else said on this page, the classes are mostly from months back and it's a bit confusing.

I had an idea that maybe the teachers, as well as a bit of RP could set a quiz as the lesson? Like find real things that others may or may not know. And then points can be awarded for who answers the fastest (it would have to be via pm or hiding their answers somehow so others can't just copy the one above) and who gets the most right.

For example.

Potions:

1. Give the various names for the plant hemlock.
2. Name 3 plants that are known as deadly.
3. Find within your books (*give a website name here*) the picture of a spider, we will be using its venom, please give me the name of the spider pictured.

Etc. I'm sure people could come up with better questions. But I just thought...maybe once a week set a quiz like that.

It could be a stupid idea, but I just thought it might be a fun way to shake up classes, it makes them sort of like a scavenger hunt. And maybe in some classes you have to work in pairs etc (if attendance goes up enough to enable this reasonably.)

Just a note, the reason classes are lagging is because of poor attendance rates, just FYI. We are working on it though.

How would you suggest we do the spellwork classes though? Like DADA for instance?

Maybe ask questions like.

In what situation could this spell be applied?
How does the practice level of the caster affect the strength of the spell?
What similarities does this spell hold to other spells?

Thoughts?

This could be a good option. Some people just want to do the class and get over with. Others like RPing interactions. I'd say we can do both. The teacher posts their first post and kids either do this quiz or do a practical lesson. It gets the kids that don't like posting in classes something to do to earn points, and the others a chance to bump up their post count.

Jess, umm I'm sure there would be better questions you guys could think of but off the top of my head for DADA:

Today we are tackling Boggarts:

1. Name the location where boggarts are found.

2. Boggarts create fear, give the proper names for these fears:
a. Cats
b. Heights
c. Lightening

3. Please give a picture of 4 different possible boggarts (people paste links to pictures of possible things to be scared of.)

4. And give pictures of how each of these boggarts could be managed.

5. Give the wand movement and incantation used against boggarts.

etc.

Or even people can set up a scavenger hunt type thing...go to a certain site, take the 4th word on the 7th line, google that word, click on the first link that appears, find the largest picture on that page, describe a certain part of it.

That sort of thing?

I'm digging these ideas.
