Robert left Khaat to sleep and looked at Brian. "Did you get into the gym today, Lad?"
"Not yet."
"Go do it. I'll watch things."
"Robert," Brian hesitated. There were so many things he wanted to say to the only man who had treated him like family since his only family died. Robert reached forward and just embranced him. Then he looked at Brian.
"I am so proud of you, Boy," Robert said quietly. "Your parents would have seen you as the shining star of all of the three of you."
"You think?" he asked.
"I'm sure of it."
"Am I doing the right thing with Kieran?"
"You don't have a choice," Robert nodded. "Its fine. Now, go hit the gym. I'll do the rest."
"Thank you." Brian headed for the gym, and Robert went back to Kieran's room.
"Jess," Robert said. "Khaat has an enormous migraine today. I set a really powerful spell in place, but its going to make her want to do little more than sleep. And that, really, is the best cure for her anyway. Make sure you keep an eye on her. Ice packs might help the pain if she's awake,. And she cannot go all day without eating. She doesn't have to be in bed, but she does need to give it a rest. If she rests today, she'll be fine tomorrow. I'm letting you oversee that. You need to practice your skills, so lets start with something non-life threatening. You take care of her." He leveled his wand at Kieran and fired a spell to bring him conscious. Robert sat down in the other chair and simply lazily crossed his legs, watching.
Kieran woke, crying out in pain. Robert said nothing. Kieran looked around and saw he was on the floor. He discovered his entire right arm had been immobilized from his neck to his fingertips. He looked over and saw Cassidy and Robert.
"I know that's not Kate," Kieran said.
"No, it isn't," Robert replied.
"And to my knowledge you only managed to procreate once, did you not? Or did you procreate with someone other than Kate?"
"She's not my daughter," Robert said.
"That's what I thought," Kieran laughed in an accusing way at Robert.
"Get up," Robert said. "If you can. Or would you prefer to stay down there."
"If I can?" Kieran laughed. He struggled for quite awhile and managed to get up, but it hurt. It really hurt. He cried out again in pain and then looked over angrily at Robert.
"Why are you doing this? Weren't you supposed to be my so-called father?"
"No. I was never your father," Robert said. "I was your guardian. But you've been over 21 for a very long time. I'm not doing anything. I didn't break your arm, or throw you on the floor. What is it you want me to do, Kieran? Things not going as you planned?"
"Just let me go!"
"No," Robert said simply.
"Why not? What the hell is the point of this?"
"Because I choose not to. As you so often told me, I'm a bastard. Maybe that's why I'm doing it. Maybe I really am as evil as you believe." Kieran laughed.
"From a Lupin?" he laughed.
Robert leaned forward, coming almost nose to nose with Kieran. "You," he hissed with a cold, evil tone to his voice that he seldom ever used. "have no clue who or what I am. Push me enough, and you will find out. That's not a threat, that's a promise."
