"If you work in this house long enough, sooner or later, you end up seeing more of just about everybody than normal households," Khaat said. "Its sort of an occupational hazard. People get hurt, and we end up seeing parts of them they aren't proud of, that they wouldn't show you normally. And that means being braced that at any given point, one of us might end up that way. You just move past it before it gets to you."
"Yes," Robert said. "You may, Cassidy."
Khaat heard the sounds of a lot of apparating. The organization was arriving again to secure the estate. It was reassuring.
"I hope you have enough of that dinner to go around, Cassidy. If not, Kate may just transfigure it to last until she makes more food," Robert said. "Khaat, go find Brian and get out of here before he gets sucked into feeling he needs to stay." He smiled at Khaat. "You do look completely beautiful, my dear." He kissed her forehead. "Feeling any better?"
"I'm fine, Daddy," she said softly. "Thank you." Robert was going to let go of her, when the light caught her hand. He took her hand in his, and he looked at the ring on her left hand. "What's this?" he asked.
"Just a gift from Brian," she said softly.
"You deserve it," he smiled. He kissed her forehead. "Go find him, and get out of here, Babe."
"Thank you, Daddy. Goodnight, Cassidy. Take care of my girls." She left the kitchen to go find Brian.
