“Ahhh, there you go,” Nerissa whispered with a smile after setting her flower in its pot in a sunny spot near the window in her dorm. The rest of the Ravenclaw girls that shared the dorm with Nerissa were still sleeping, and so Nerissa took advantage of the time to take care of her mandrake before getting ready for the day. The redhead made her way over to her bed and dropped to the floor so that she could pull her suitcase out of underneath it; it was the safest- and the only- place to keep her stuff, she had found. Nerissa slid the suitcase out towards her and began unzipping it so that she could get some plant food out, along with her clothes for the day. She pulled gently on the zipper, forcing it to go backwards on its track noisily. She frowned, “blasted thing- hush!” she muttered, letting do of the zipper to push her messy bangs from her face; she still hadn’t brought a brush to the bird’s nest that was her hair, but she would get to it as soon as she managed to open her stupid suitcase.
After several attempts to silence the zipper as she pulled on it, she figured that she would rather face a group of angry Ravenclaw girls than an angry professor scolding her for being late for class, and yanked the zipper backwards, opening the suitcase in seconds. A few of the girls stirred, but none of them actually woke, much to Nerissa’s relief. She grabbed her Ravenclaw uniform (an ugly gray and blue knee-length skirt, a white long-sleeved, button up shirt, a gray and blue vest, matching socks, and her black robes), and tossed them up on her bed before grabbing her mandrake’s breakfast, which was kept in a small plastic baggy.
Nerissa stood up after kicking her suitcase back under her bed- not even bothering to mess with the noisy zipper again- and closed the curtains for a moment, “sorry buddy, I need to shut this for just a second- just a second,” she spoke to her favorite plant, caressing one of it’s leaves for a moment before making her way back over to her bed. Nerissa got out of her pajamas and dressed in her uniform under five minutes, determined to get out of the common room before any of the girls woke; Nerissa didn’t exactly get along with the girls in her dorm, and preferred to keep to herself or to her small group of friends whenever she could. The redhead remembered her brush and dropped to the floor once more, glad now that she had decided not to re-zip her suitcase. She grabbed her simple black hairbrush and ran it through her hair hurriedly, wincing whenever the brush got stuck on a particularly large knot.
Once Nerissa was ready for the day she opened up the curtains for her mandrake, gave it a quick kiss on one of its petals, and darted down the stairs and out of the common room. The small girl made her way down the many flights of stairs that stood in-between the Ravenclaw common room and Nerissa’s breakfast in record time, and found herself walking through the large oak doors in no time at all. Nerissa’s eyebrows went up when she saw two boys standing on one of the tables, accompanied by a professor Nerissa couldn’t remember the name of; it was a rather odd thing to see. Why was the professor doing nothing about their misbehavior? Nerissa neared the table and stopped behind a Gryffindor girl she had never seen before, she could read the banner from where she was standing now. “Might I suggest selling gillyweed instead next time? I know I alone would buy loads of the brilliant stuff,” Nerissa suggested, speaking to the boy who seemed to be in charge; Nerissa was terrified of drowning, and always had been, in fact, she hadn’t set foot anywhere near the black lake in years because of this fear, and would pay quite a bit to get her hands on some gillyweed- anything to end her fear of water.
Nerissa waved shortly at the professor and the Gryffindor girl before making her way over to her own table, which was one away from the one the group were occupying.
