Round 2: Duel 1

This is a one on one duel. The more realistic you are, the better. If you take long to post, points will be docked off.

Begin.

Abbey looked over at James, ready to beat him. She thought the reason that it was so important to her to win was so that she could show everyone that a girl could win. She put a sly smile on her face and pulled out her wand from her pocket, ready to begin. "Petrificus Totalus!" Abbey yelled, casting the spell directly at James.

Petrificus Totalus - Causes the victim's body to become rigid and not able to move. Used by Abbey to catch James off guard.

James was ready for just about anything. His nerves were tensed, his breathing forced in cool, even breaths. For some reason, it felt so good to fight. Too good. After all of his life of being beaten down and forced to climb back up, James was quite prepared to duel. DUELING. What a pathetic joke. No real battle would ever come out like this- one-on-one, following crummy rules and forced to play along a certain fashion. James much preferred melee combat himself, as wands were snappy and required specific movements in order to really work. When James approached Abbey in the ring, he followed the regular rules and bowed, wand before his face. But the moment James spotted that smile, he knew what would follow. That cocky smirk- he had seen such smiles numerous times on various faces. Ne'os being the latest. How had he held his own there again?

Duh- you kept your wits about you!

James eyes snapped up as he realized that Abbey had no intention of bowing. He jumped to the side, as if scared, but as he leaped aside, he cast a hasty "Flippendo!" off the tip of his tongue. His faux arm took the brunt of his slide, but James quickly alighted to his feet, wand at the ready.

Flippendo- A simple, forceful pushing jinx.

Abbey narrowed her eyes. James was alot smarter than she had thought before. She kept her cool though, and quickly cast another spell. "Locomoter Mortis!" Abbey cried. She pointed her wand at James, almost certain that she would hit him this time.

Locomoter Mortis - Used to lock the victim's legs. Used againest James by Abbey.

"Protego," James flicked the offensive spell aside with a shielding spell, his eyes now open and scanning the opponent for any surprises, anything she could throw at him. James never, ever, let his guard down with a wand in hand. In fact, he rarely let his guard down anyways. His cold, analyzing eyes, used to the blazing speed of battle, quickly spotted several environmental factors that he could use to his advantage.

He pointed his wand at Abbey, but as the incantation "Bombarda!" left the tip of his tongue, he angled the wand such that the spell would obliterate the ground in front of her. He did this four more times- once to the far right of her, once to the far left, and twice on either side of her. He flicked his wand quickly and stiffly, to conserve movement and energy, and so that he could easily angle his wand to block any incoming spell.

Bombarda!: Explosive spell, used five times to create dust cover so that James can plan out his attack, or attack Abbey in a surprise attack.

Abbey squinted her eyes to see if the spell had hit James. 'Darn it!'[/ki], Abbey thought. [i]Why didn't that hit him?' Just as Abbey was about to cast another spell at him, explosive dust showered Abbey. Small pieces of dirt and rock also came down, covering her from head to toe in dust. Abbey coughed loudly, small pieces of dust coming out of her mouth.

Abbey looked over at James. This was war now. She pretended to cough again, pointing her wand from the inside of her hands at James. "Locomoter Mortis." she said, thinking that maybe James wouldn't notice her wand. "Protego." she also said, casting a shield around herself, more prepared for an attack this time.

Protego - Defensive shield made around the caster. Used to protect Abbey from any oncoming spells.

James enjoyed the idea of a silence. It allowed one to think, to analyze, to predict. Regular, straight-forward battle was a drag for him. He spent too long under Alan's tutelage to ever want to tangle in brutal combat, and he hated dueling restrictions. Abbey was not going to find some way to clear the dust without James knowing, and he was certain that the all-sight-eye-spell was not in the DADA or Charms books- he had covered both books cover to cover. James jumped lithely to the side, careful about making any noise. The moment he had the chance, James was going to learn a Dillusionment charm. James made quick movements as he noticed some of the dust shift into a cyclical hole, indicating a spell passing through. James was lucky to be just left of it, and the spell passed by seemlessly. He continued circling around the opponent, pushing the thought that this was Abbey to the back of his mind.

He continued to unleash Bombardo's before each step, such that his voice would lead the girl off. He had to be quite careful, as he could only rely on his form in a one-on-one duel. Brute force would only ruin this, and having Abbey pinpoint him immediately simply would not help.

Bombarda! Explosive spell. Used to blow up the arena floor around Abbey. One or two may hit her. Also, resulting shrapnel provide good cover for James to completely circle around his opponent.

With the shield she had created, James' spells were blocked from Abbey. She peered through the dust and blackness that was taking over the room, trying to find a way around it to James. She coughed into her shoulder, hating the dirt. Abbey kept her shield strong and tried to cast another Petrificus Totalus at James.

From the area Abbey's spell emerged from, James would tell that Abbey had barely moved from her location since the duel had begun. He used Protego to block the Petrificus Totalus Abbey had cast. His eyes dancing around the room, James spotted several larger pieces of rubble, and individually plucked each one of the mottled floor with swift Wingardium Leviosa spells. He lift each with his wand and swiftly swiped the wand towards Abbey, causing each piece rush towards Abbey at varying angles, testing out her awareness of her surroundings. James then dashed around, wondering what Abbey would try next.

Maybe things would be more interesting if you did more than throw rocks. What say you? The voice at the back of his head was already volunteering unheeded advice. As James' day was getting better.

Wingardium Leviosa- Quickly cast on rocks, which are released at the right time to be practically thrown at Abbey behind James' cloak of dust and dirt.

Abbey quickly dodged the rocks that were being pelted at her head. She ran towards the back of the room, feeling a rock brush the back of her leg. She glanced down and saw a small cut. To keep the rocks from cutting her even more, Abbey put another shield around herself so she could decide what to do next.

She was getting angry now, but didn't let herself get too mad; she knew if she did she wouldn't perform her best. Abbey aimed her wand at an angle to hit James possibly from behind. "Sectumsempra! Sectumspra!", she yelled.
