Gender: Male
Race: Human

Year AND Age: Seventh, Seventeen

Play-by: Adam Brody
A P P E A R A N C EHeight: 5’11’’
Hair: His hair is the classic colour that most Brits have – brown. But over the years it has darkened. Adam likes to look after his hair but he will walk around with the unruly mop he rolls out of bed with.
Eye colour: His eyes are described as soulless but only because they truly seem to have no colour to them. His eyes are this empty brown that can’t be easily described. His eyes show no flicker of emotion or comprehension because he is blind and has been for a very long time. But, his eyes change colour. He has a gift which allows him to tap into another person’s sight and when he does his eye colour changes to the same colour of the person’s eyes that he is looking through. *More below.*
Skin: It’s that ‘I haven’t seen sun in a while’ colour that is starting to use its dark hue.
General Appearance: The only way you could successfully describe Adam in one word would be to call him cute. He has that childlike sweetness about him that no one could truly grow out of even if they tried. But he hasn’t seen himself since he was a child and now even the memories are starting to drift away. If he could see himself once more with his own eyes then he would see what a handsome young man he has grown into. Adam isn’t a great beauty, though. He is from a good family that breeds out definitely lookers but it seems he was the black sheep of the family in more ways than not. He is quite average or ‘plain’ depending on how you look at it but he only remembers the little child in oversized clothes that used to stand in front of the mirror. Adam chooses not to see himself in other people’s eyes because he will never see himself for what he is because even what people see is affected by bias thoughts and he doesn’t really want to find out what he looks like. He is a fairly attractive teen that is slightly underweight and stands at a nice height – he just doesn’t see this for obvious reasons. He has a scar underneath his ribcage from his childhood and when his sight went but this is something that haunts him and he’ll never, ever go topless for fear of people seeing the ugly, disfiguring scar.
P E R S O N A L I T YSkills:
- ’Second Sight’ – Since the accident Adam has been able to tap into other people’s sight and share it. That is the only way he can see and for a long time when he was learning at home he had someone with him who would act as his eyes but because he has been brought up as a polite child he would never dream of using someone’s sight without their permission.
- Musician – He learned how to play the piano at a very young age and still plays. Because of his lack of vision he had to learn how to play without reading the notes so he’d listen to the music a few times before starting to play. He is now a very accomplished pianist.
- Hearing – Just like when every other sense is heightened when another is lost, Adam’s hearing improved drastically when he lost his sight. The difference with his is that he can hear something miles away which really helps him out when he tries to figure out who is in an area and how close they are. He can also identify things like tree positions and which way birds fly overhead. It is very interesting to watch Adam use this.
- Endurance – Adam has had to a lot of things in his years and he has never given up. He considers his endurance one of the only skills he has as his weaknesses outweigh everything else.
- Navigation – He’s blind yet he has a great sense of direction. Fairly ironic, huh?
- Sculpting – He is awful at most art but he is very good at creating statutes or pottery with a wheel and some clay. No one is sure how he does it and if honest, neither is he.
- Jewellery Making – It isn’t just threading beads onto string and Adam is fairly good at it.
- Soft Sculpture – Adam has a talent and that is being able to put fabrics together. This also helps with the Jewellery creation but that makes him a dab hand at making clothes.
- Logic – Adam is intelligent even if it seems people are working against him and he definitely has his head screwed on right.
Weaknesses:
- Sight – That is what is truly Adam’s only weakness and that is linked to everything else.
- Reading – He finds reading Braille difficult and is often frustrated with himself when he can’t manage it.
- School Work – Because Adam struggles with reading Braille it means his schoolwork suffers but he is a fairly decent student.
- Flying/Heights – That shouldn’t even be something he should attempt but Adam is terrified of heights despite being blind.
- Walking – He has always been clumsy, walking around in the ‘dark’ doesn’t help and he has now been given a cane to reduce his falls. He has collected a few scars from this.
- Magic – When he actually finds his wand he is alright but the wand movements are hard to copy and he’s got a lot of problems with his magic as it is erratic and unreliable.
- Insecurities – Being out of his comfort zone makes him panic a lot and because of this it makes Adam seem disorganized and a bit scatterbrained although he truly isn’t.
- Light Sleeper – Adam has to listen out for everything that goes on around him in case he is in some kind of danger. This affects his sleep so he wakes up a lot at night which makes him less aware of what’s going on around him in the mornings.
Likes:
- Storms – Adam just loves to listen to storms rage outside and it will often lull him to sleep.
- Hot Weather – The warmth is brilliant and he spends a lot of time in Greece during the summer to soak up the heat.
- Sprite – The Muggle drink is incredibly tasty.
- Guinea Pigs – They’re fluffy and cute and just all around brilliant. Plus, Adam loves them to pieces.
- Music – All types except rap music are fine. Adam will listen to it all.
- Dancing – How he does it, he isn’t quite sure but he is a brilliant dancer when he has a partner.
Dislikes:
- Strong Smells – The heightened sense of smell makes him uncomfortable when there are very strong smells in the area. Whether nice or not Adam doesn’t like them
- Pretentiousness – He’s an honest person and doesn’t like the aspect that some people have within their personalities
- Loud Noises –The hypersensitive hearing doesn’t help if there is a loud bang.
- Manipulation – He hates it, especially when it is directed to him.
- Lying – It makes him feel uncomfortable.
- Small Talk – Why not just get to the point?
Motto: N/A
General Personality:Adam has an interesting personality for someone in his position. Most would be really down on themselves but he has a type of humour that means he is always cracking jokes about his disability. He doesn’t care about it at all because he knows what is wrong with it and he hasn’t ever tried to sugar coat what happened to him. He hates it when people beat around the bush or are uncomfortable around him because they think he is an oversensitive mess – that’s not true at all. Adam is strong but he has a soft side which makes up most of his personality.
He is selfless, which isn’t something you would expect for a person in his position. But when he wants to help someone he will and there is nothing you can do about it. He would give up the world for someone he loved and he wouldn’t think twice about the repercussions. Generosity goes far where he is concerned and is always lending a hand to people in need but where he can’t help he will give them money so they can get help. He doesn’t like to see people in trouble or sad and depressed, he hates to think people are upset when they have no reason to be. He is either there to listen or to offer some advice and he is pretty good at giving advice to people when they need it.
Adam’s humour also goes to pranks as well. He is someone that knows how to behave in adult situations but knows how to kick back and act his age. He is hard-working but sometimes that doesn’t always reflect in his work. He is the type of person that always looks on the bright side of life in any situation. He is the rock in most crises because he never has to deal with seeing the is logic helps him figure out where to go and what to do after horrible situations.
H I S T O R YFamily Information:
- Marie Lyfelde, Mother, 40 -- Adam has a relationship with his mother that cannot be compared to any other mother-son relationship. He tells Marie everything because he trusts her inexplicably and to her, he is her little boy and of course he can do no wrong but he doesn’t. She’s the one that taught him how to be a good person and the trust between them isn't likely to break.
- Cliff Lyfelde, Father, 41, -- He taught Adam everything he knew and helped him even more when he lost his sight as a child. The man is forever trying to tell Adam stories but it has come to the point where Adam could tell them as well as him. They have an interesting relationship to say the least.
- Kerry Lyfelde, Sister, 11 -- Adam says she is beautiful but you can only go one what you see as Adam believes that his sister can do no wrong just like his mother believes he can’t. He only knows her personality as she was nothing more than a baby when he had the accident so he cannot figure out what she looks like for himself. His gift could help him but he swore to her long ago that if he ever got his sight back then he would look upon her with his own eyes and no someone else’s.
Childhood: Adam was a mischievous child that was always going on some sort of adventure with either his friends or his father who was always keen on finding out what mischief his son got up to. Adam, as a child, was always fond of watching his father fishing in the river outside their town. It was there that he would sit and laze the day away, building little huts with sticks on the river bank or making mud pies with the local boys who also had fathers that liked to fish. Occasionally he would swim there and down the river it would open out into a large oasis which was surrounded by weeping willows and other trees whose leaves dipped down and caressed the surface of the water.
In the summers his mother would stand waist deep in the water with only a linen shirt on and some denim shorts. She’d sometimes take it off though when the heat became too much. Her dark locks would sit on the shoulders and sometimes dip down into her bust or settle on the swell of her breasts. He was forever in awe of the woman that was his mother. She would spend time helping him learn how to swim, showing him how to keep himself afloat and how to tread water if he was out of his depth. Sometime he would panic but she would have her arms around him if he showed even a flicker of hesitation. They would walk back down the path to their little cottage in the trees near four o’clock every afternoon.
It was there that his father would be waiting for them, ready to tell tales of his explorations while his mother started to make dinner. His father would tell stories well into the night, exciting them both with tall tales of excitement and adventure that couldn’t be matched anywhere. In the end Adam would fall asleep with his head on his mother’s lap, her long fingers threading through his hair and gently pulling at the knots. They were happy together, spending days and nights talking and doing things that other families necessarily wouldn’t. They were living in a little town in southern America that never seemed to have made the map; a town that was away from everything but still in the thick of it all.
When he was six, his little sister was born into the family. Not much changed except for the fact that he rarely saw his mother after the birth and for him that was a drastic change. He was sad for a while but once his sister began to become less dependent on his mother he got to spend time with the both of them. However, a little more than a year later he had his accident.
It was just after his seventh birthday and a few months before his sister would be one years old and he was trying to find things to give to her as a birthday present. He was rushing around upstairs and for some reason his vision was suffering. He just assumed that it was fatigue and as he made his way downstairs his vision went completely and he fell into darkness. But it disappeared as he was about to take a step so his foot slipped, sending him rolling down the stairs. He hit the hall table once he’d made it down and this caused him to have a nasty cut beneath his ribs and because of them breaking on the way down it aggravated the cut and made it a lot wider, making the blood loss quicker.
When Adam came to he couldn’t see a thing. He knew he was in St. Mungo’s; he could hear the bustle of healers and quite chatter coming from the bed next to them. He knew his eyes were open but he couldn’t see anything, he couldn’t even identify where the light was. It was just darkness, nothing more and nothing less. Immediately he began to cry out of frustration and confusion but he managed to calm down by his mother’s hugs and sweet words being whispered in his ear. He was calm enough to listen to the Healer’s diagnosis. He would never see again. This caused his mother to cry and from his hearing which had definitely gotten better, he could figure out where she was and he managed to wrap his arms around her in an attempt to reassure her.
He was in physical therapy for weeks afterwards but he couldn’t really understand why he needed it. However, it was there that he figured out he had an ability unique to himself. He found himself wishing he could see the room he was in because his nurse had given him a rough description of the walls and soft plush carpet that tickled his feet when he walked. Suddenly, there was light and he could see himself stood on the carpet wearing dark slacks and a striped shirt. He could see the walls which had pretty paintings on them. Slowly, he began to walk or at least attempt it and somehow he managed to control his own body while looking through someone else’s eyes. He reached over and touched one of the unicorns that had been painted onto the wall. He could feel the texture and revelled in being able to see what he could feel.
He told his mother about his gift when he returned home and she offered to teach him how to read Braille but this was something he struggled with immensely and ended up spilling his secret by telling her that as long as she was looking at the page then he would be find to read as normal. She cried tears of pure happiness when she found out that he could still see in a way unique to him. She hugged him close to her and ran her fingers through his hair. She was proud of him and he knew she was. For a child of his age he was very intuitive. He was still her boy and because of his inability to successfully read Braille, she taught him at home – just like she had intended on doing.
Hogwarts: Marie taught Adam at home and he loved every single second of it. They were would sometimes learn Muggle subjects but more so the magical ones. They would spend days in the fields with books and sheet music surrounding them. It was there that Marie would have him play. She would smuggle out the piano and resize it in the field where he would play some of his own compositions as well as some others that he had learned prior to the accident. The’ two of them bonded more while she was teaching him and they formed an iron-clad relationship that couldn’t be broken. He learned how to control his magic but it had its limits as it was erratic and unpredictable. Some subjects couldn’t be learned for obvious reasons but Adam persevered and so did Marie who took great joy in teaching him all the same even if everything couldn’t be covered. During his sixth year equivalent at home, both of his parents agreed that he should spend his N.E.W.T year within the castle walls and oddly, Adam accepted their choices. He found things a little difficult to begin with and had to use his gift more often than not much to his chagrin.
He wanted to be able to deal with things by himself but that wasn’t always possible so as a Christmas gift his parents sent him a cane with a lion top to it. The head was charmed and the eyes especially which meant that Adam could tap into that to see and also steady himself on the cane. Unfortunately though, he is incredibly forgetful when it comes to the snarky, talking cane and misplaces it often.
