Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Christy's Suggestions Empty Christy's Suggestions

Post by Christabelle Whittle Fri Mar 05, 2010 5:44 am

Well I only have a few that I can put down right now since I'm not at home but I promise I will add more later....I know that not everyone reads the plot all the time or the quibbler so my first idea is to put things dealing with that on youtube...I know more people would be apt at watching youtube videos sometimes and we could also use it to promote the site which was what I know we're planning on doing anyway.

Also and I know I have a bad habit of it too but sort of an rp seminar for new members or people who've never rp'd. We used to have it on my old site the fidelius charm and it worked wonderfully in helping people not produce one liners. I try not to but sometimes I don't get the help I need from the other posters in their replies and it makes it difficult.

Most other things is that I agree with Abbey on most of her suggestions and Khatt's. Thats all I can think off of the top of my head but I'll add some more when I get back on tomorrow.

I LOVE the idea of a seminar. Maybe the writing clinic could be done that way. Or, I do know there are some characters that just won't engage in a duel because they don't know how to do it. So maybe an interactive seminar on dueling. There are lots and lots of ways and subjects to do this.

I like it a lot.

I agree...there are a lot of things with the dueling system that need work. We need a dice system or something like we had on my site. The fidelius charm. It isn't hard to set up. We used them for everything including a pregnancy test. I had to set them all up. But if we had that it would be a lot easier to have duels as people won't be able to God mod much with it.

I also think we need to end with teaching your alternate character....Its causing too many problems because I'm seeing where people are treating their alternate like they are perfect in their class and others like complete and total crap. And I won't name any names because its already been said but I'm not the only one who's seen this. If we do keep it where you teach your alternate I do believe you should be harder on them. Its ruining the fun for a lot of people. Plus I don't know many teachers that pick on students like that. If a teacher was to do that where I lived, they would be sued so fast their head would spin or put in jail for discrimination or harassment. Just a thought. I'm kinda done with that rant for now.

About the dice thing, I know exactly how to set it up, it's not hard. Just the problem with dice is that it can't be perfectly fair all the time. As Darren would say, it wouldn't be realistic. Like if a second year was against a sixth year in a battle, a 50:50 chance die wouldn't really work, if you get me. I could probably create a die system like a different die for each tier which might balance things out (see tier/magic levels thingy in educational decrees for info on that).

On alts teaching. I don't think there are actually that many people that have alts teaching their own charries. I think we need to take note of any that are though and read over their threads to make sure they're not favouring their own pupils.

On teachers being mean...well if you think in the books, some teachers were quite mean! Snape was awful to the trio, especially Harry, for example. But tbh if the DEs are taking over Hogwarts in a subplot soon, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if teachers did become quite, well, mean Razz.

But when its borderline harrassing a student I think even in the books it becomes a problem Jemma. I mean I never saw them to the point of harrassment or name calling in the books more than them saying he was a moron. But the de thing I understand. I'm not the only one who feels that way which was why I brought it up.

Also another suggestion is that even the way we did quidditch games before I lost my internet at my house it seemed to be a bit of borderline god mod if you ask me. I mean there really isn't a way that you can change that without messing up the game of quidditch and I understand that but maybe having dice for scoring and for catching the snitch? And you can't say that I'm saying that to help me because I'm the seeker and have horrible luck with dice most of the time.

Ok Jem, you want names, check out wilson's thing

He's HoH of Gryff, and went and took 10 from a slyth for nothing, didn't give it back for a perfectly good response, then gave out 20 to his alt, who is a gryff, and gave out points to everyone else, then when he did the work, he only gave 5 to the Slyth in question.

Really, he shouldn't even be there, he's order, and everone else had to quit. However, i'd be happy to sack him from the order and the let him keep his Hogwarts job : D

But yeah, he's the one i'm keeping an eye on, because the aforementioned incident was only one of the classes i read

And dice system could work if we upped the odds

if it lands on one the 2nd year wins, any other number and the grad wins, yeah, that's unrealistic, but sometimes 2nd years can get lucky?

Christy's Suggestions Empty Re: Christy's Suggestions

Post by James William Wilson Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:21 pm

A PM between Matt and me (disregard the parts that are not referring to teaching):

Yes he is... perfect :-S A boy who does not seem to have friends nor a social life, a boy who seems to have managed to be hated by the girl he likes... if that is the definition of perfect, than I do not know what the definition of not perfect is. He is created as a... intelligent boy, someone with great academic and intellectual success, but with the social life of a dead ox. He is, what you would roughly call, a book worm. I do hope I have cleared that up. And I give Poe the points he deserves. You could have noticed that I, with Wilson or McCoy, do not let Arthur answer all the questions. I let other people do it just because Poe is also mine. I give them space for an answer and I give him the points I give all of them. Amelia got 20 points last time, so did Arthur. Those who were insolent did not get any points, but do scroll through my classes. You could have seen all of that on my Muggle Studies.

Next... they are bloody students... they can't enter and call a professor four-eyes for naming them G.I. Joe because of their haircut. That is not normal, despite everything you say. Wilson is like that and he is not meant to be liked by other. You do not have to like your professors and Wilson is specifically designed not to be liked, to be sarcastic and to be a strong authority. I cannot change that right now, you know that. He is modeled after House and we all know who and what House is :-D I just cannot change him that drastically.

They have to respect the authority of the professor, we are not running an amusement park here and although this is a RP, and I am fully aware of that, but we are trying to be realistic and this is not a school, at least not in my definition. I have the authority of throwing him out and I will do so when it is deserved and he deserved it. This is the first time I threw someone out. On my last class, I have said that they can leave because they are finished. And they will not stop posting because Wilson is an idiot... you know that, I know that. Regarding the threatening... it was just a warning, because there have been situations where I have been attacked by a student and Malfoy seemed the type. So, their complaints are in order, a right I cannot deny them, but I think I have clarified everything and that there is no need for problems :-D

And now:

A question... can a student call a professor four eyes? I do not think that any school system allows that. Then again, I am no favoring Poe, although it may seem so, but it is actually only because I made Poe like that and not because I made Wilson like that. Each of the professors likes Poe, you can check (although most of them are deleted). What I have said to Matt, on all my Muggle Studies classes, I have let the others answer and I do so on DADA to and on Transfiguration. Although, I could to the different.

On the matter of Rooney, who is also mentioned with the points... ''Unable to resist being a little bit of a smart ass he asked, "And you are?" His face was full of pleasantry, the corners of his lips tugging up into a smile.'' His quote... challenging the professors authority, a big NO in Wilson's class. And that is why he had lost 10 points and only got 5.

''Wilson looked at Landon. ''Good, Bond, good. You have once more proven that your House adores these spells.'', he said with a smile. ''Well, since you have done two things right and one wrong, here's 5 points for Slytherin. You have not received any points earlier because of your... boldness to act stupid. Now, that you have done one of your tasks right, I would not be so unfair to disallow the deserved amount of points for your house.'', he said. ''Oh, and for those of you who think I am antagonizing Slytherin because I am head of Gryffindor or just because I do not like them... you are idiots. My older students, older meaning those who have attended my classes before, know my opinion about such things. I just antagonize people who act irrational or stupid or just James-Bond-like. It is a pure coincidence that the two, G.I. Joe and Bond, James Bond here, have been from Slytherin.'', he explained.'' My post which explains everything.

And about the 20 points, how much did Amelia receive? Do you propose that she, also, is my character? I give points to those who deserve points. Look at the Basic level classes where you can see it much more clearly and objectively.

Regarding the borderline harassing... as said in the PM, he is modeled after House, and we all know who and what House is. He dislikes authorities and has the full authority himself, which actually means that he can say what he wants. He can't harm you, that would be unrealistic... but call you names, nicknames and idiots, he can do it... he is just like that... this not any revenge or any personal quarrel I am dealing with through him, he is just like that and is/was/will be meant like that from the beginning - cold, emotionless, sarcastic, direct, realistic and extremely mean (what a euphemism XD). I hope I have cleared all this up... we can't all be perfect and angels, I do think you agree with that and some of us have to play the 'bad guys'.
