Hair: Jonathan’s hair has a mind of its own. When he has it long, which he normally does during the winter to keep his noggin warm, his chestnut brown hair curls and goes in just about every direction. When outdoors, he’ll cover what he calls his ‘fro’ with a beanie or something equivalent. He used to put products in it when he was younger and far more self-conscious but now he simply is too lazy to try and do anything with it - hence why he keeps it short for most of the year. Now, we’re not talking buzz cut or anything, but he keeps it just short enough so that it looks wavy rather than curly. During the warmer seasons, when he spends more time outdoors, his hair lightens a shade or two but its nothing too significant.
Eye colour: He has almond shaped eyes with heavy lids and normally has bags under his eyes for various reasons - usually from not sleeping well because he has a slight case of insomnia. He has a thick, healthy brow line which easily turns into a unibrow if he doesn’t pluck them (yes, he does this all the time because he rightfully believes that a unibrow makes him look like a Neanderthal). His eyes are plain old brown, there isn’t much special about them, except that they tend to be a little bloodshot most of the time, mainly for the same reason he usually has bags, those darn sleeping problems.
Skin: White with olive undertone
General Appearance: The sixteen year old has a long, oval-shaped face with a fairly strong jawline which he likes to think makes him look a little more ‘rugged.’ He normally has a good amount of stuble along his jawline and upper lip...not because he thinks it looks cool or anything but mainly because he’s just too lazy to worry about that sort of thing. He tried to grow a beard once, figured it’d be easier than shaving, but it came in patches and made him look ridiculous, so he has yet to try again. His complexion is generally clear, except for the pimples he gets right along his hair line but those usually aren’t visible to the generally public, thankfully.
His nose is by far his biggest feature, long and bulbous, and that’s something he’s gotten used to over the years. He has a very thin upper lip, which turns even thinner when he smiles, and has a fuller bottom lip but it would hardly be called “full” by any means. His teeth are slightly crooked, though they are white in colo
His style changes all the time, between wizarding robes and muggle clothing. The one thing that remains consistent is that he likes to dress well. He enjoys wearing dress robes as well as button up shirts with khakis or a nice sweater and tie. His father always told him that the first two things that someone will judge you on is your handshake and how you dress; he’s taken that to heart. He enjoys solid clothing, patterns aren’t really his thing, and he likes them to be in plain colors such as black, white, navy, gray, etc. He doesn’t make audacious statements with his dressing style, he simply wants people to know that he does know how to take care of himself.

General Personality:IntrospectiveJonathan is the sort of person who always has something on his mind; it is perpetually racing with random thoughts about his surroundings or himself. He has a difficult time articulating his thoughts into words, at least when spoken. He is far from charismatic, failing miserably at public speaking, but he somehow manages to write his thoughts down much more efficiently. He keeps a journal, though of course he doesn’t tell people that because he doesn’t think its very masculine of him, and this is where he stores most of his thoughts. Jonathan is amazing at overanalyzing situations, normally expecting the worst. Some may consider him pessimistic but he prefers to believe that he’s just a realist. The boy usually thinks before he speaks, taking a good amount of time to gather his thoughts beforehand. He has a low, deep voice and speaks rather slowly. During conversations he generally does his best to avoid talking about himself and instead tries to turn all conversation topics around so that they are about the other person.
LonerHe is not the kind of person to strike up conversation with just anyone. He enjoys people-watching and getting to know someone from afar (yes, he does believe this is possible). He observes their interactions with other people as well as their body language, believing that he can get a good idea of their personality from these observations alone. Jonathan is friendly towards those he knows but rarely lets people get too close to him because he has some trust issues, though he isn’t completely sure why that is. He hates being in large groups of people and believes that he is socially awkward in situations like that; on that note, he also hates being the center of attention.
IntelligentIf there is one thing that Jonathan is truly passionate about, its learning. He loves learning about anything, whether its from the magical or muggle world, whether its a cold hard fact or an opinion, whether its history or the present or even speculating the future, he soaks it all in like a sponge. When he gets done with school he wants to become a Healer both because he wants to help others and because he is incredibly fond of both Potions and Herbology. Sometimes his social life suffers because he spends a majority of his time in the library or his common room studying and doing his homework. He generally finds himself drifting towards others who have the same passion for learning that he does but doesn’t limit himself to just that group. He has been known to tutor a few younger students, just for the fun of it.
StubbornJohn definitely has his beliefs and he sticks by them. He enjoys a good debate, or hell even a bad debate, as long as he wins in the end. Even when he knows he’s wrong, he won’t stop fighting his side until the cows come home (or well, the other person just gets frustrated and gives up). Whenever he’s putting on the bull horns and being stubborn, he generally becomes incredibly sarcastic and well, to put it frankly, rude. His stubbornness gets him into situations that bring out the worst in his personality.
H I S T O R YFamily Information: Mark Hardcastle, 39, Historian/Journalist
Linda [Coxe] Hardcastle, 37, MoM worker, Department of Magical Games and Sports
Alyson Hardcastle, 14, Student
Childhood: Linda Coxe and Mark Hardcastle met during their schoolyears at Hogwarts. They were both members of the Ravenclaw house but were two years apart in age. They began dating while Mark was in his sixth year and Linda was in her fourth. They had a bit of a hiatus once he graduated since they were only able to communicate through letters and see each other on holidays. They still did both of these things but they were allowed to date other people while they were waiting for Linda to finish up school. Mark never dated anyone else, he simply threw himself into his work while Linda had a few flings with some of the guys that were still at school. She never had any intentions of having anything serious, knowing that she really did love Mark. Almost immediately after she graduated, the two got married. They both focused on their jobs, quite content with their small farmhouse in Manchester. They hadn’t exactly been planning on having children, but Jonathan was their ‘miracle,’ as they liked to call him. They spoiled their firstborn like most parents do, though his father seemed to develop a better relationship with his son at the early stages of his life. A couple years later, Alyson was born. Jonathan adored his little sister from the beginning, though of course he felt small pangs of jealousy when she began getting the bulk of their parents’ attention, especially Linda’s.
As Jonathan and Alyson both grew older, they became closer and John quickly became a stereotypical overprotective brother. They were best friends and did just about everything together, especially because there weren’t many other magical folk in the area. He became closer with his father during this period, probably because his father was able to work from home while his mother was always off at work it seemed - working late hours most of the time. It may have been spending this much time around his father that gave him the desire to learn; he was always interested in hearing the things his father was writing about or what sort of history he was studying. When he was ten years old, he started writing in a journal every night and still holds the habit to this day. He would write down new words or words that he particularly enjoyed, random thoughts, quotes, and really anything that inspired him. When he received his letter from Hogwarts he began getting anxious, wondering how his parents would react if he was sorted into a house other than Ravenclaw...he hadn’t even thought of that possibility before. On September 1st he left for Hogwarts, anxious and nervous.
Hogwarts: After he got used to being away from home, Jonathan began to feel incredibly comfortable at Hogwarts - soon viewing it as a second home as most students do. He had of course been looking forward to the classes the most, his desire to learn outshone his desire for new friends. Of course, he made some friends, mainly in his own house or from classes, but he spent most of his free time studying. He thought it was awesome to finally be able to do magic at will, without getting into any sort of trouble, and wanted to learn everything he could. He was labeled as a bookworm from the start and he wasn't sure why people said that as though it was some kind of insult. As the years progressed, his small pool of friends became larger, and his marks even higher. He always believed that work came before play and that sometimes meant he had to press pause on his social life. He's had one girlfriend, during his fourth and fifth year, but that ended horribly when she cheated on him with some older guy. Now he is even more awkward around girls than he had been previously and far less trusting. He still isn’t completely over it.
