Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

Ethics of Dueling Empty Ethics of Dueling

Ive noticed that many duels have ended in fights or with one character just leaving the duel, this shouldn't be happening and its usually because one or both of the characters are just dueling unrealistically. Try to remember the following when dueling:

How good is your character at Magic? How good is the other character at Magic?

You have to recognize magical potential of your character and the opponent. Usually, the younger you are, the worse you are at magic. This doesn't of course qualify for all wizards, but on PA it is generally a rule that graduates are better duelers than students, or at least know more magic. So you have to make your character react according to their magical potential. If they are facing someone older or stronger than them, they should be at a severe disadvantage.

Magical Limits

You need to recognize your characters magical limits. As a first year for example, you can not levitate trees, and etc. Try to remember this and duel realistically, or no one has fun.

One or two Spells per post

Its better if you use just one spell, or two, in one post. Your post should not be like: "Darren casted sectusempra at the opponent, then casted avis to form birds. Oppugno! He casted nonverbally, sending the birds to the opponent. He then used stupefy, petrificus totalus, avada kedavra and crucio at the opponent. He then used the ruducto curse on the cieling above to make it drop on the opponent." As weird as that sounds, that does happen sometimes, but it won't in PA. The moderators and admins will make sure of that. And even if you do duel like that, no one will want to duel with you!
