Most annoying character?

I agree that Sam was a better character, but Frodo at least didnt make stupid decisions. He was a flawed character, and that doesn't make characters annoying. The movies downgraded the character a little bit, expecially the third movie.

Jess, the father from the Boy in the Striped pyjamas... Well I haven't actually read it, but I saw the film (and almost cried - a rarity for me to cry at movies). But in the movie he really frustrated me. Argh. Stupid annoying Nazi.

Well, since we're at movies, I might as well jump to Anime-
ROLO LAMPEROUGE. Stupid little prick with terribly impossible last name from Code Geass. Great series, terrible character. He killed people with little rhyme or reason intially- which made sense, as he had the magic ability to stop time and kill people for a living. But then the MC saves him from dying and all of sudden he's overly protective of the MC. He then shoots generally good characters for mentioning the MC's lil sister (even if she did start nuking the world towards the end, he had no reason to hate her THAT much).

Ok, rant done.
Other characters include:
Holden Caufield (Catcher in the Rye)- I don't know why, but all I read in the course of that book was "Whine Whine Whine, Phony, Whine Whine Whine." Again, personal opinion. I know that some people consider this book to be one of the masterpieces of the world.
Harry Potter (HP 5-7)- Same complaints as Holden, except for one big difference: He deserved to die at the end of his book. Get a proper send-off, before the fans came in and legalized their unofficial sequels... too late Rowling. Too late.
Jack from Titanic- Did this guy even have a last name? Well anyways, he was pretty annoying. He just seemed like such a generalized, stereotypical starry-eyed hero. Equally annoying is Rose, who needed to repeat everything twice. For repetition's sake, of course.

^^ I enjoyed the movie Titanic. It's a really good movie. Well made.

^^ Yeah, but I happen to like scripts. I respect Cameron as a director, but geez, he can't write a good script to save his life!

Annoying literary characters? Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, Amy March from Little Women, Umbridge, Bella, Romeo and Juliet, and Rev. Dimmesdale from Scarlet Letter.

That is an excellent list of characters. The whole of Scarlet Letter was awful, though. I dislike that book with a burning passion.

Although I thought Umbridge was annoying, though, I thought she was well-conceived. She was an excellent foil to Dumbledore's character, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the part where she is hauled into the woods by the centaurs

Oh yeah, The Scarlet Letter annoyed me from start to finish - not just the characters but Hawthorne's way of writing also irritated me. Dimmesdale was just my least favorite.

She was incredibly well-conceived. She just annoyed me...I could hear her girlish voice in my head and gawwwd. I just hated her. But I guess she wasn't exactly annoying. I just straight up loathed her existence. xD

I have to say the mom from a Child Called "It"...I mean I just wanted to rip her out of the book and beat her to a bloody polp!
