Welcome to Potter's Army

We have been a Harry Potter Roleplaying site since 2007. If you're an old member we hope you come check out the discord link provided below. And if you're looking for a new roleplaying site, well, we're a little inactive. But every once and a while nostalgia sets in and a few of our alumni members will revisit the old stomping grounds and post together. Remember to stay safe out there. And please feel free to drop a line whenever!

What’s Happening?
Since every few months or so a few of our old members get the inspiration to revisit their old stomping grounds we have decided to keep PA open as a place to revisit old threads and start new ones devoid of any serious overarching plot or setting. Take this time to start any of those really weird threads you never got to make with old friends and make them now! Just remember to come say hello in the chatbox below or in the discord. Links have been provided in the "Comings and Goings" forum as well as the welcome widget above.

{{The following potions are from the Harry Potter Gameboy Game (& Copyright
thereof):}}
Jessica walked into her room she was as nervouse as hell and twice and twitcy she placed her books down and smiled as she saw the ring on her finger "not long" she thought as her ring caught the light as she moved, taking out her wand she pointed it at the board on it apeared the days lesson.

Instructions for today: Make sure you tie up your hair if it is long. Also to wear all protective gear: boots, gloves, smock, etc.

Get out all the needed ingredients & Cauldrons first before starting your potions!

DO NOT RUN, or rush around trying to do everything at once! That is how accidents happen.

REQUIRED POTIONS FOR TODAY: Antidote, wiggenwald, & pepper-up. Vitamix & Herbicide are for your own fun if you are interested in herbology and gardening. Although I doubt anyone will get to making that. If you want to make them and we run out of time, make an appointment and I'll watch you work through it. Making all 3 potions complete= In class 5 points.

Antidote:
The antidote is used for most poisons although there are many variations. This is the most common one. Remember that if you are in a hurry, in most cases forcing a bezoar stone down a poisoned person's throat will most likely save them!

Ingredients needed: Collapsible Cauldron, bezoar stone, aconite, boomslang skin.

*I will hand out the boomslang skin & mandrake roots for you to share out. Depending on the number of those who attend we might get away with using only one boomslang skin for the entire class! Each person will come up and cut off a piece and then weigh until it is the proper weight.*

Uncollapse your cauldron, tap with your wand so it stays that way. (if you've not done so already). Add two cups of water. Allow to simmer for five minutes. Steam should be rising from your cauldron. Meanwhile, measure out 2 oz of aconite. Add 4oz of shredded boomslang skin. Small pieces please! Carefully! Your potion should be a slight green/olive in color and steam should still be rising or wafting. Finally, after stirring clockwise thrice and counterclockwise once, add the bezoar stone (whole). Remember to drop it in VERY CAREFULLY! Do not allow it to splash out of the cauldron! It can burn you! Allow potion to simmer for ten minutes and then label a vial (name, house, year, date and potion name) which is to be handed in for grading. The rest of your potion is to be ladeled out into a glass jar that is resting upon my desk. Everyone take one. Label it like the vial and keep in the back of your cubby for just in case. It expires two months later. So remember to give it to me for disposal when it expires!

Allow cauldron to cool, or ask me to use the cooling charm upon it. Make sure you use the cauldron cleanser on your cauldron and utenstils before starting the wiggenwald! Recommended that you start the Pepper-up potion next if you don't have a second collapsible cauldron.

Wiggenwald Potion:
The Wiggenwald potion is for cuts and scrapes & exhaustion.

Ingredients needed: Collapsible cauldron, Silver unicorn horn, wolfsbane.

Place collapsible cauldron on a low flame, add one cup of water and simmer for ten minutes. Add one cup of chopped wolfsbane (small pieces around the size of a finger nail, that isn't much longer than the finger.). Stir thrice clockwise, & twice counterclockwise. Simmer for five minutes and stir clockwise once and counterclockwise once. Measure out 4 oz of powdered silver unicorn horn. If you don't have the powdered form, you will slice off a small piece from a horn in your kit, and then grind using mortar & pestle until it is a powder. Stir twice clockwise after adding in the powdered silver unicorn horn. Your potion should be a light blue or turquoise and a similar steam in the same color should be wafting from your potion. Make up your vial and jar with your label. Hand in your vial and keep your jar in the back of your cubby in the special portion therein.

Expiration: one month from date of making.

You can make up a vial for yourself to take to your dorms after I've tested your potions! (of all potions taught today.)

Vitamix Potion:
Copper Cauldron, wormwood, asphodel root, & monkshood.

Place copper cauldron on flame and add a cup of water, allow to boil. Take out your infusion of wormwood (2oz vial's worth) and add CAREFULLY to your cauldron. Slice up monkshood into strips as evenly as you can. Add to cauldron. Stir twice counterclockwise and once clockwise. Allow to simmer for five minutes while you chop up your asphodel root. Stir twice clockwise. Your potion should be grey in color. Then add the root to your potion. Stir twice clockwise. Your potion should not be a grey-green in color. A wisp of steam should be rising. Label vial and jar, ladel in potion carefully, and do as you normally do (hand in vial and put away jar, making sure stoppers and lids are tight & secure!).

Expiration date: 12 days from making.

Pepper-Up Potion:
The Pepper Up Potion relieves the symptoms of cold and the flu. It also leaves the hair
smoking.

Ingredients neeeded: Copper Cauldron, bicorn horn, mandrake root.

Place copper cauldron on your flame adding in one cup of water. Allow to boil for five minutes. Measure out 2 oz of mandrake root. Use mortar & pestle and turn to powder. Remeasure to make sure you've not lost any. Add to cauldron carefully, scraping out everything from your mortar with your knife. Wipe out mortar. Then slice a four oz piece of bicorn horn and turn it to powder in the same way. Stir thrice both clockwise & counterclockwise. Allow to simmer ten minutes. It should be a grey-blue in color and have a milky thickness. Make up vial and jar, etc.

Expiration: three months

Herbicide Potion:
Helps to deal with insects and adds a small portion of food for a plants health & wellness.

Ingredients needed: Copper Cauldron, dried nettles, porcupine quills, & snake
fangs.

Place copper cauldron on the flames. Add 1 cup of water, simmer for five minutes and add in 1 cup of dried nettles, slowly, two or three at a time. Measure out 3 oz of snake fangs. Use your knife to crush them, carefully. Add to potion. Allow to simmer five minutes and then stir twice clockwise and four times counterclockwise. Allow to simmer five minutes. Turn off flames and add 2 porcupine quills, each broken in half. Stir twice clockwise. Allow to cool five minutes and then make up labeled vial & jar. etc.

Expiration: 1 month.

Once you are finished with your potions you are to:
BE SURE TO CLEAN ALL WORK AREAS AND CAULDRONS WITH CAULDRON CLEANSER. USE SPECIAL RAG ON YOUR PROTECTIVE GEAR (TAKE OUT OF THE DRAWER IN THE CUPBOARD). Put away all excess after sealing each bag, or case.

Homework due (when class ends approx.) November 1st. Please owl me your answers (pm) with your name, house, year and lesson # in the subject. Worth 10 points. Please note that ingredients includes the cauldron!

1. What are the ingredients of the most used antidote?

2. What are the ingredients of the pepper up potion?

3. What is the pepper up potion used for?

4. What is a side effect of the pepper up potion?

5. Which potion did you enjoy making today & why?
