Murder at Midnight: Part 1 Empty Murder at Midnight: Part 1

Post by Guest Sun Sep 27, 2009 9:19 pm

Nicholas gazed out of the bedroom window absent minded, his brain hardly registered the heavy rain falling outside or the lightning zigzagging across the night sky. His hand ran through his hair over and over as his anxiousness increased with every passing second. His lower lip seemed to be bleeding rather profusely, it seemed he had been biting it and not realised. Nicholas would quickly stem the flow with his hand then gaze down at the red liquid gathered in his palm. His heart would skip a beat as his imagination wandered to his little home in Dumfries, the little home which seemed to have been the stage for a massacre. Christabelle had been sent to scope the place out, to confirm the rumours and god forbid identify his family. They couldn’t be dead, they just couldn’t, they had been ok this morning, he had dropped of his younger sister around lunchtime and almost patched up his differences with his parents. Nicholas’s eyes opened and closed as those morbid thought’s passed through his mind, would that really be the last time he had seen them all? His temper flared up at the thought and in a rush of anger he sent a crystal vase flying across the room, smashing it into a thousand little shiny pieces. Nicholas would have given anything to have gone himself, he however could not, at Christabelle’s insistence. He couldn’t risk getting attacked should they still be there lying in wait.

Werewolves they said, a whole pack of them. They must have heard about the Confederacy and decided to form a group of their own and try to stop Nicholas before he could do anything of note. How cowardly, to attack a man’s family when his back was turned, they would pay, no matter what the outcome of tonight was. How he hated those despicable dogs, how he longed to have been there when they crashed through his front door. Feeling his anger rise again he placed his forehead against the cold glass and closed his eyes. He had to stop his mind from racing, he had to stop the mechanism that was his brain from turning, he was developing a headache.

Christabelle was taking her time wasn’t she? Surely it didn’t take this long to travel a little Scottish town and bring back some information. It was like waiting for a morbid Christmas and as he saw a small figure walk up the driveway his heart skipped a beat. His hand instantly went to the locket tucked underneath his white shirt, Nicholas had looked it out as soon as he had been told the news. It was small and golden, inside the only family picture Nicholas had, taken after the birth of his sister. How he prayed the news was not true, he squinted through the darkness in an attempt to see if Christabelle had anything with her but alas he could not make anything of note out.

He heard her open and close the creaky door and he straightened up as it shut. His heartbeat seemed to quicken as he heard her feet on the steps, one, two, three. Nicholas turned to face the closed door, waiting for it too open, waiting for her to tell him all was well and everyone was fine. But alas he knew that would not be the case, he couldn’t even face her as she walked in and turned once more to gaze out at the darkness. The lightning had subsided now and the moon was just visable behind thick clouds. He closed his eyes as he heard the door open. Silence followed, a silence which was broken by Nicholas “Are the rumours true then…..” That was all he could manage, that was all that seemed to come out.

Murder at Midnight: Part 1 Empty Re: Murder at Midnight: Part 1

Post by Christabelle Whittle Sun Sep 27, 2009 9:36 pm

Christabelle had made her way back from his parents home. It had been a massacre when she had got there and she had to fight from being drawn to tears by the occasion. Especially when she saw Nick’s little sister. She had known he and his family were starting to work things out but she still couldn’t believe his parents were dead. She was grateful to have arrived to find his sister bitten but for the most part unharmed. She picked up the little girl who was in tears to make her way back to their home.

She held her close to her as she apparated. Had she not been in a hurry she probably would have flown the two of them there, so as to not put the little girl in such an uncomfortable state, but she knew Nick was already beside himself with knowing what was going on. She couldn’t understand how they could have bitten such a sweet and innocent girl as Nick’s sister. It was monstrous thing to do. She was only two, just a toddler. She tried to clear her mind as she reached the house.

Every step she took with his sister in her arms seemed like it was a mile as she walked up the porch. She pulled out her wand to open the door to make sure she kept hold of the little girl securely. She pushed the door closed behind her with her foot and made her way up to their room. She made her way up the stairs as quickly as she could. His sister may have been bitten but there was still some good news to it at least. Her cousin had a cure for lycanthropy and could easily cure her with a potion and she was still alive. Even though it was only a few steps to their room it seemed like it was the entire length of the hall but she made it opening the door and walking in. She carefully shut the door behind her.

She looked at Nick, her beloved, seemed heart broken as if he didn’t need her to tell him his parents were dead. It seemed he already knew. People tended to know such things when things like that happened. “I’ve got your little sister.” she said walking up towards him with his sister in her arms. ”She was bitten.” she went onto say looking down and sad, ”Your parents weren’t so lucky Nick, I’m so sorry.” she looked as if she herself were about to cry just from having to tell him.

Murder at Midnight: Part 1 Empty Re: Murder at Midnight: Part 1

Nicholas turned Christabelle’s words over in his mind, a few stuck out more than others, a few choice words. “Bitten.” “Not so lucky.” “Sorry.” Part of Nicholas wanted to collapse on the bed, he wanted to lie in those magnificent green silken sheets, to allow them to envelop him. Tears filled his eyes as he came to terms with the news, he did not want it too be so, he did not hate his parents despite what people may have thought. They were a close family in their own secret way, there was mutual love on both sides, even when judgement seemed to cloud those feelings. Now they were gone forever, swallowed up into the eternal cycle that was birth and death. Never again would he hear his mothers moaning voice, filled with nagging but sprinkled with love. Never again would he arrive home late to find his father sitting in his armchair winking at him and ushering him upstairs before his mother found out. Nicholas remained strong however, even if his eyes betrayed him, he stood tall and proud, his arm’s clasped behind his back, his gaze fixed on the darkness outside the window. A small tear would escape his eye and run down his smooth white cheek as he spoke as calmly as he could, still clinging on too a bit of hope it seemed “And you are sure this is so….” He nodded his head slowly as he answered his own question, of course it was so, Christabelle had met them a week prior, she knew his parents faces and to be quite frank there was no chance his father could have fought of a pack of Werewolves. He was not the greatest wizard in his family, his mother had probably been in the kitchen, she was always in that kitchen. Nicholas smiled a little as he continued, his voice wavered however “Died in that bloody armchair no doubt….” A small sob escaped him as he quickly moved to stem it with his hand. How had he allowed things to spiral out of control like this? The events which transpired tonight were his doing. His eyes opened and closed as more tears trickled down his cheeks. Nicholas spoke softly, his back still facing her “Could you give me a moment alone with my sister please? She must be in a frightful state…..”

The little girl however was not in a state, at least not just now. She seemed to be fast asleep, wrapped up in the sheets Christabelle had obviously salvaged from her cot. The bite was not visible upon the little girls face, a god send for her though Nicholas did not know it yet. He remained turned, waiting for Christabelle to leave, he did not want her too see him like this. Nicholas was supposed to be untouchable behind his manor walls yet the enemy seemed to have penetrated him deep. His heart had been torn to pieces, they were all he had left and now they were gone. True his sister remained but she was bitten, she would become one of them, every full moon, a beast. That poor sweet girl could one day be the death of him, Werewolves turned on anyone who stood before them, what is a brother when the taste of blood was in your mouth? It was a sick twist of fate, a kick in the teeth and an insult to his person. They must have done it deliberately to humiliate him. He spoke more so to himself but also to the departing Christ belle “I should like a few moments alone with her. A few last moments to say goodbye…..” There was nothing for it, he was going to have to kill her. The only pure piece of love in him that wasn’t tainted, the only piece of unconditional love he had left and it was he who needed to destroy it, “Oh Cristina, what have they done to you….” Came his voice. He shook his head slowly “What have they done…..?”

Murder at Midnight: Part 1 Empty Re: Murder at Midnight: Part 1

Post by Christabelle Whittle Mon Sep 28, 2009 12:03 am

Christabelle handed his sister over to him the second he asked for a moment a lone for her. She hadn’t known what exactly had happened to her parents probably having been asleep in her bed. That was after all how she was when she had gotten her. Fast asleep only waking up to ask where her brother was. She couldn’t stand to see Nicholas upset and just seeing him in tears was something she wasn’t sure she could handle.

When she handed his sister to him she carefully wiped the tears falling from his eyes as she looked into his eyes with hers full of sympathy, “I’ll just be outside if you need me.” she said as she turned and walked out the door. She turned one final time when she opened the door back up almost as if to tell him it would be alright, even though she knew it wouldn’t be alright for him. You couldn’t replace a parent, or both of them. She had learned that dealing with Abbey at Abbey’s father’s funeral. She had even cast a cheering charm on her just so she and her sister could get through it for each other, though she couldn’t do something like that to Nick unless he asked. Even if he had she probably wouldn’t have done it.

The second the door was shut her eyes glazed over with a vision. She saw what Nick was about to do to her. She knew it would be wandless. The poor child asleep probably wouldn’t even feel a thing. She was down on the floor and taking deep breaths as she came out of the premonition.

Murder at Midnight: Part 1 Empty Re: Murder at Midnight: Part 1

Nicholas took the young girl in his arms gratefully when she was offered to him, she stirred as Christabelle left, eventually opening her eyes to gaze at her beloved brother. He would move away from the window too sit on the bed as he gazed down at her. She was tired, clearly because her eyes seemed heavy, she did manage a smile however, a smile which Nicholas returned. Cristina looked very sweet and Nicholas would tickle her chin as she crept back into sleep. Tears continued to trickle down his cheeks as he delved into his sleeve, producing his long wand. He had to do this or his authority over those he wished to lead was destroyed. Nicholas would not allow his sister to become infected with the disease he so hated. He touched his wand to her temple and begun to speak the accursed words “Avada……” Nicholas closed his eyes and cleared his throat before continuing “Avada…..” The words it seemed refused to escape his lip’s, he could not do this, not to her. She was all he had, killing her would be like killing himself, worse perhaps. Cristina could not defend herself, indeed the only person she had left in this world had his wand pressed to her temple. Cursing he cast it aside violently smashing it into two pieces off the wall. Unable to contain himself he held his younger sister tight, his sobs muffled by the covers she was wrapped in. After a good minute or so of tears he dried his eyes quickly with his hands and gazed at his little sister. Nicholas could not kill her but he needed to do something, things could not continue the way they were. Cristina would have to be hidden away, for now at least, until he could find a cure of some sort. Waving his hand he sent her into a deep sleep, one she would not soon wake up from, until he could come up with something a little more lasting. He couldn’t tell anyone bout this, she would be his little secret, dead to the world.

Quickly unwrapping her from the cover he placed her carefully in his bed, wrapping her up in the silk duvet. She looked so peaceful and was, like Nicholas, naturally pale so for now no-one would be able to tell she was alive, especially if he refused them entry to the room. He hated the thought that Christabelle would be led to believe that he had killed his sister but he really couldn’t allow her to think otherwise, at least not for now. Kissing her cold forehead he spoke calmly “Goodnight my love, sleep well….” Rising from the bed he waved his hand and allowed the candles to blow out. He strode to the door and pulled it open, shutting it quickly and locking it magically. Nicholas looked at Christabelle, suspicion upon his features “Don’t go in there Christabelle…”

She looked at him as she was now standing when he walked out of the room. She stepped back away from him a little. She wasn’t able to stop what had happened, she realized that. Things had played out as they should have and she looked at him in disbelief at the fact he had just murdered his sister. ”Y..You killed her didn’t you?” she asked having already known the answer.

She looked at Nick her eyes cold towards him, ”My cousin had a cure and you killed her for getting bitten?! You’re no better than those monsters that did that to her.” she said as she stormed down the hall and the steps and out of the house. She stopped the second she was out of the house. She turned and looked back. She couldn’t stay there. If he could have done that to his sister, who would stop him from doing the same to her once he found that she had out lived her usefulness. She pulled out her wand and apparated back to her parents house.

Post by Godric Delk Malfoy Wed Oct 07, 2009 8:12 am

Godric had followed the two of them closely. If the rumors were true then he would be needed. He had made sure he had brought the cure to lycanthropy. It sat in a golden vile in his cloak. He walked in as there was an audible pop of apparation. He walked up to Nick, with the other boy's face drawn out of distress.

Nick tell me what happened. You are my best friend and I want to help. But unless I know what is going on, I can't.

He truly wanted to help Nick but he wanted to talk to the boy first and foremost.

{{OOC I was told i can come in by christylol that plus it's for a plot twist.}}
