Hafiz cleared his throat and answer confidently "Merpeople are sentient beings that live underwater in our lake. Their customs and habits are mysterious, and they refused being status in favour of Beast. They can breathe above the water for a time, but it is unclear if they can ever truly leave their habitat.
Merpeople society is based around organised communities, and they have a great love of music. Their language is known as Mermish, and only a few Wizards know how to speak it. However, since their language can only be heard properly underwater, it sounds like screeching when spoken above water.
Merpeople have been known to keep Grindylows as pets, and use Lobalugs as weapons., he finished his last sentence for a smile and hope that the Headmaster impressed of him.

"Very well described Hafiz," the headmaster said, impressed. "5 points to Slytherin. Merpeople are classified under the 'being' division, as they can communicate with humans and are highly intelligent," he explained. Looking at the students, he thought they seemed bored. "Now, we will use the bubblehead charm to go under the lake and go look at the mermeople."

Bubblehead charm, huh? Maybe Hogwarts wasn't as backwards as James had always assumed. He cast the spell and poked the bubble around his mouth and nostrils twice to ensure it was safe. He had doubts about following this professor, but he could easily move about and fight with the charm covering his mouth.

Elijah drifted into the group crowding around the Professor and he saw a few of them sporting the effects of the bubble-head charm. Elijah bit his lip and removed his wand from his robes. He cast the spell over himself and poked the fleshy bubble thing to make sure he wouldn't drown - which was always a good thing. Once Elijah was satisfied he looked over at the Headmaster to see what he wanted them to do next.
