Ability Desired: Telekinesis.
How your character got this ability: Vitani first learned she had her ability when she was eleven, after her mother's miscarriage of the sister she longed to call her own. Not only was she upset with the loss and the near death of her mother, Vitani felt spite for being ignored by her father in her time of depression. Her emotions became unstable and she experienced frequent mood swings, sometimes ending up in a crying jag or breaking things. She at one point contemplated suicide, with a foolish and selfish notion that it would be revenge on her parents. Vitani noticed that when she became upset, little things would happen around her. A pen would roll off a counter, or a piece of paper would move slightly in a room without opened windows. She thought it might have just been her imagination, or that she was simply going insane. She thought little of these things; however, these small disturbances had proven to be unstable telekinetic power. Her parents first witnessed her power at it's apex; her father upset her so badly with a comment on her own well being (as he had been to ignorant to see her desperate cry for attention) that the anger inside of her sent the dinner table to the other side of the room.
Vitani has spent years trying to control her power, which is fairly weak when she is not overcome by powerful emotion, in order to impress her parents. They saw it as dangerous and believed that sheltering her from powerful emotion would allow the ability to subside, and they sought to accomplish this by keeping her detached from the frustrations of public secondary school. Their prayers were answered with an acceptance letter from Hogwarts, an environment that they believed allowed her to be safe among people like her.
In the summer of her 14th year, Vitani set out to prove her power. Being a resident of Liverpool, Vitani often rode past the Garston Docks, where an enormous industrial crane stood. She thought if she would be able to lift that crane, her parents would respect her - and her gift. After weeks of practice moving specific parts of the crane, she deemed herself ready. It was all too soon however, and in a twist of events, Vitani's body was knocked back by a recoil of her unstable powers and broke her neck. Because of this injury, which still often plagues her with pain, she was forced to give up her one true love - the ballet. This was a crushing blow to her, as she had dreamed of pirouetting across the stage of London's Garrick Theatre as a prima ballerina. As a result, Vitani has grown to almost fear her power and hate herself for ever being so foolish and even been given it in the first place. She uses it sparingly and with hesitation when lifting anything relatively heavy, or potentially dangerous. In her own mind, she believes that she is a freak and a danger to those around her, and herself.
