"Some parents will do anything for their kids," Marcus said. "Muggles make bread with sprinkles. Angus burns down a string of buildings in three different countries all before lunch." Angus laughed, and as they were talking a message fluttered through Angus's floo. Angus opened it. It was from Tom Gelding. He read it quietly.
"Donohue, we need to talk. Clearly, you're upset about something, but stop setting my house on fire, damnit, and tell me what you think I did now. Name a time and a public place, and I'll meet you." It wasn't signed, but Angus knew obviously who it was from. He handed it to Marcus and opened the floo.
"Robert," Angus called.
"Here," Robert replied through the floo. "What's up?"
"I just got a note from Tom. He seems, again, to not have a clue of what I'm making a point about."
"Interesting. Not entirely surprising, though. What are you going to do?"
"I'm thinking about going. Every time I've had a conversation like this with him, he's been apparently clueless about what Suzanne is doing, and then its quiet for awhile. Maybe he doesn't know about this. I keep hoping that eventually, he'll keep an eye on her if I make it expensive enough for him."
"Well, you hurt him significantly this time. Irene told me earlier this afternoon that the intel from Paris is that the big auction that was scheduled for next week has been canceled. She said they'd been hearing that there were going to be a large number auctioned this time, but they surely can't do it, if they don't have the 'merchandise' to do it. And apparently, that's supposedly been canceled too temporarily because they don't have any place to house them."
"Well, there's been some good come out of it, then."
"For now, it would appear so. If you're going to go talk to him, I'm going to go with you this time. Tell him you'll meet him in thirty minutes at Cafe de La Paix."
"You think we can get a table at this time of day?"
"I can," Robert said. "We'll take Marcus and Jack. I'll station them in the plaza. Wait another twenty minutes and then send your message. I'll make the reservations at the side cafe now. I don't think it'll take long. If Ruby and Aria want to go, there might be a benefit--if they bring Diamond along. It's getting chilly already right now, so they'll want a jacket, and they'll want to make sure Diamond has one. I don't think this little meeting will take very long, but we want to do it right, all the same."
"You're considering letting Tom see her, aren't you?"
"Considering, yes. But how close I let him get to her is my call," Robert said. "It depends on how well he behaves. If the girls go, make sure Ruby carries Diamond so that Aria can be free to make sure that no harm comes to Diamond."
"Understood," Angus said. Angus closed the floo. He looked at Marcus and Ruby and Aria. "You all have any objection to seeing if I can get Tom to reel in Suzanne and Priscilla at all?"
