Kate whistled for Pip, and when Pip arrived, she gave instructions to both birds. Pip fluttered over to Jack's shoulder and screeched rather loudly right in his ear. Kate couldn't help laughing a little.
"He says he knows a spot where there are several all together, and if you follow him, he'll take you there," Kate told him. "I can teach you a couple different whistles. You can use one to ask them to seek, one to fetch, and another to ask them to return to you." She demonstrated them for him so that he would have at least three commands for them. "If you need something more, just let me know."
Marcus went with Angus to the backyard, and he picked up one of the large garden trugs and took it with him to the garden. Angus started by picking a couple large spaghetti squash, and then chose a couple fresh onions, some scallions, some bell peppers, a head of garlic, some fresh baby spinach, and some fresh parsley. and some blackberries.
Angus took the trug into the house, and he got out some puff pastry from the freezer and set it out to thaw a bit while he prepped the squash to roast in the oven. Once they were in the oven he started to prep the puff pastry, and Tara came over from Edward's.
"Can I help you with anything?" she asked.
"If you like" he said. "Could you wash the vegetables and dice them for me?"
"Absolutely," she said. "I'd be happy to. What are you making?"
I'm going to make a seafood and pasta lunch," he said.
"I thought Simone said you were making squash," she said.
"I am," he said. "Watch and learn."
"Well, now I'm curious," she told him. He took the puff pastry, the blackberries, some cream cheese and some sugar and made some blackberry creamcheese danish with a white icing glaze for dessert. He got some shrimp from the freezer and used a spell to unthaw them and set about peeling them and deveining them. By then, Tara had the vegetables diced for him. and he started to work on a sauce with crushed garlic, and diced bell peppers, onions, celery, and parsley, in a butter sauce with lemon, salt, and fresh cracked pepper.
When the squash was done, he took it out of the oven and shredded up the squash.
"It looks like spaghetti!" she said.
"Yes. That's the entire point of it," he told her. "We'll use it for the pasta and serve the shrimp in the butter sauce over the squash instead of having it over pasta. It's a very healthy choice. It's high in vitamin C, vitamin B6, betocarotine, and fiber, not to mention the vitamins in the other vegetables, the lemon juice, and the shrimp."
"I need to cook with you more often," she said.
"Ruby does most of the cooking these days," he told her. "But Simone thought these squash were useless, and they're not. They can be quite tasty if fixed correctly." He poured some olive oil in a hot skillet and dropped the shrimp in for a quick sautee.
