Maddison Kane trudged wearily towards the tranquil black lake, her trusty Wizgiz in hand, as she tried to keep up with her friends' banter. The small device appeared to be her constant companion, as she absently tapped away at the screen, her face lit up with a smile or an occasional giggle.
As she strolled along, a girl passed by and called out a greeting, "Hi, Maddie!"
Maddie responded with a friendly wave, "Hey, Katie!" before returning to her Wizgiz, her mind fully absorbed in the conversation at hand. Finally, she found a spot near the water's edge, nestled beneath a tall tree with its rough bark against her back.
With her ponytail swishing behind her, Maddie leaned against the tree, her school uniform immaculate: a crisp white button-up top with a sweater vest in her house colors layered over it, and a pleated black knee-length skirt. The lush grass felt soft against her legs, and the gentle lapping of the water as it caressed the shore was a soothing background melody.
Completely absorbed in her conversation, Maddie tapped away at her device, oblivious to the world around her. It was as if she had retreated into her own little bubble, lost in the depths of her virtual world.
