"She has had some seers' abilities for some time now. We try not to tell people because we can't let it get around. The ministry seems to take dimly to little ones who start having accidental magic before about age ten or so. But Robert says he sees episodes of it at all ages," Angus said. They went in, and they saw everyone busy setting supper on the sideboard.
"Hello, Dear," Kate said, coming from the dining room back into the kitchen. She gave him a peck on the cheek and just kept going to, this time to slice Ruby's bread and set it out with some fresh French creamery butter and a jar of fresh jam. Simone set out large pitchers of ice water, iced tea, and lemonade, and Michael opened two bottles of wine--a dry red, and a sweet red.
"I think that's it," Michael called. "Come and eat, Everyone." Kate gave a shout upstairs for Jessie and anyone else that was still straggling. Angus put Abbey in her chair and Robert fixed Abbey a plate and put it in front of her. She looked at the slice of beef wellington, trying to figure out what it was.
"Wazzat, Papa? Sammich?"
"Well, sort of like a sandwich," Robert laughed. "Beef. You know what beef is."
"Cow."
"Right. And that's bread around it."
"Sammich."
"Well, okay, then. Its a sandwich. But, see, its cut for you. Use your fork."
"Not for sammich," she scowled at him.
"For me? Please? This is a different kind of sandwich. The kind you eat with a fork."
"Silly sammich," she scowled. He stabbed a little piece of beef with a bit of the pastry crust and gave it to her.
"Try it," he said. She ate it. "Like it?" She nodded. "Good. Now, eat the rest with your fork." He went to his place at the table, and she promptly laid down her fork and picked up her beef with her fingers.
"Methinks she's stuck thinking one eats a sandwich with their fingers," Angus laughed, as he went to the sideboard to fix his plate.
