Age: 23
Appearance: Green eyes, long blonde hair, about average height. Dresses well both because she wants to be professional but also because she's trying to pretend everything is juuuuuust fine. She's what you'd call pretty, but there's that oddly dark, metaphorical cloud surrounding her that can sometimes make her just blend in or seem too withdrawn to warrant approaching. She does her best to be upbeat in front of her daughter, though.

Facts Known About Character: Brand new Charms Professor. She has a daughter who is nearly two years old, and her husband died about 8 months ago, leaving her as a window/single mom/whatever you'd like to call that. Sometimes she might confuse her students because there are certain words that come out with a vaguely Eastern European accent rather than her usual, trained posh English one.
Rumors Known About Character: The students probably don't know that her husband died, and may have assumptions as to the parentage of her daughter, Sophie.* They also might wonder why she isn't at all familiar with the school and where things are.
Bio: Avery has a strange habit of making her own life into a truly distressing nightmare. When her parents divorced, and they realized the sisters weren't getting along as siblings should, they split the girls up. Avery went with her father, moving into Durmstrang territory for work. Thus, she ended up at the school when she turned eleven, and tried (albeit not well) to make the most of it. Her only real passions were to do with creatures and charms, though she found the other subjects interesting enough. She wasn't especially skilled with magic in most forms, but the areas she preferred were ones that made her look like she really shined, even if on the whole she was a bit more... lackluster, let's say.
At school, she hadn't many friends, and when she graduated, that encouraged her to move back to England, where she worked to push away the awkward half-accent she'd picked up from mainly speaking a language other than English until she was eighteen. It's worked for the most part, though some words can come off as sounding a bit strange. For the most part, though, she's re-learned her appropriately RP (no pun intended)-style English.
She took a job at the Ministry, in the Beasts Division, where she worked as a paper pusher of sorts, verifying registrations for anything from Ministry-owned owls to Dragons within the Ministry's domain. It was predictably boring, but she did fine at it, and that was enough for a while. But one day a man came in to register his dragon, Fergus*. As it turns out, Robin* had gone to Durmstrang a few years after her, and they hit it off spectacularly -- even with the revelation that he'd dated her sister in the past and even gone so far as to propose.
As it happens, Robin's family was extremely well-known. Darlings of the public, it became clear that he was involved with her, and while Avery can't be sure, she has a theory that his family pressured him into proposing. It wasn't that he didn't seem to care for her. But he'd always seemed like the bachelor type, and she'd half started considering it a fling just to spare herself a bit whenever he inevitably broke it off. Mercifully, after the wedding came and went, whenever Avery told him that she was pregnant, he actually seemed excited. He even chose their daughter's name.
But when Sophie's first birthday came around, he was nowhere to be seen. He didn't come home for the party and she didn't know what to make of it. That is, until his family told her in no uncertain terms that she was no longer part of their circle. For a long time, she thought he'd just decided he couldn't handle it or something, and was too cowardly to tell her. It was hard to be angry with him, though.
Several months later, she found out that his family had been involved in a lot of illegal/criminal activity, and in an attempt to keep her and Sophie safe, he'd gone to a meeting intending to make a deal -- but hadn't come back alive. And his parents had tried to protect her by telling her nothing and sending her away. Confused, devastated and totally lost, she didn't know what to do with herself. She quit her job to stay home with Sophie for a while, but eventually the cash just wasn't there like it needed to be. So now, as Sophie's second birthday is approaching, she's decided to sell their home and take a job as Charms Professor at Hogwarts, so they can live on the grounds and Sophie can have a sort of built-in nanny system. More importantly, it's safe, just in case someone does want to come looking for them.
