Venison burgers? Selwyn stopped by the Hog's Head stall. Obviously, the changes to the pub didn't only extend to the furnishings. Previously, he wouldn't have expected any stall set up by the Hog's Head to feature food at all. Hard liquor was more like it.

"I'll have a burger, thanks," he ordered.

It was curiosity which sent Adrienne to the Spring Fair. A morbid, morbid sense of curiosity. She had not expected, however, to run into one of the objects of said interest -- at least not this quickly.

The concept of a duck wrap had called to her, surprisingly, and she managed to make it nearly up to his side before realizing who it was. Perhaps his hair had thrown her off.

Adrienne let out a surprised little gasp, though it was basically nothing, and pulled up short to turn back around.

While his burger was being made, Selwyn turned to run an eye over the rest of the food stalls, looking for something to drink. But that thought was dispelled as he noticed Addie turning away.

What was she even doing here? She must know he'd be here, the Faire was just down the road from the school. Was that why she was here? It looked like she'd just changed her mind about speaking to him, actually.

Selwyn didn't know whether speaking to Addie would just make things worse, but it would be ridiculous to act like they hadn't seen one another.

"There's no need to leave on my account," he said.

As charming as the Leaky Cauldron could be, and as accommodating as Declan had been, she had been looking forward to getting some air. But now she felt like she couldn't breathe. She had obviously been right in assuming he would be here. She couldn't decide if she would rather have run into Kaiden, but at this point, she was pretty sure she just wished she'd stayed home.

He spoke and Adrienne halted, her eyes drifting skyward as she tried to act less ridiculous. But it was a bit late for that. So she turned around to face him.

There was clearly no point in lying, since she'd been caught out. "I didn't mean to interrupt your lunch plans. I was just coming over to see what they're selling."

Selwyn was caught off guard by Addie's... well, it was an apology, though why she thought she needed to apologise he had no idea because he never had any idea why she assumed she was at fault for half the things she did.

He'd expected her to still have some pent up anger since last time they saw one another. He'd expected a reply somewhere along the lines of how her decisions had nothing to do with him, thank you very much.

"I didn't think you were doing anything else," he said. Nevermind that he had, even if she had been meaning to speak to him, there was no law against that.

He looked down and scuffed his foot through the grass at the edge of the stall, weighing what he was about to say against the trouble he'd cause for saying it.

"You should see someone, Addie," he told her, looking back at her. "I think... I think Kaiden's family might have done more damage than you think."

Okay, so maybe she should have stopped at the whole interrupting thing. The explanation had indeed been obvious, which she only registered in hindsight. So she just shrugged, unsure what else to do with herself. But then she came up with something worth saying.

His hair was different wasn't it? Adrienne found that she actually rather liked it, and was opening her mouth to inquire after it when he spoke.

Her mouth snapped shut, her eyebrows tugging together as she tried to piece together his meaning. "Excuse me?" She began, almost surprised by the bite of her own tone. "I'm trying to give you some space and you.. decide that I need therapy or something? What are you on about?"

See, this is why he'd never said it plainly like this before.  Addie was really good at taking things the wrong way.  But Selwyn figured he didn't have to worry about that anymore.

"I didn't mean it like that," he tried to pacify her.  "I've always thought you needed therapy."

"I just- I was always going to suggest it, but I could never figure out how without this happening, and whenever we talked we always ended up fighting anyway," he explained. "It's not like I needed to give you more reasons to be mad at me." 

"But I don't hate you. I want you to be happy. I just don't think we can be happy together."

Yeah, that made it better, didn't it? Adrienne felt her lips turn down into something between a pout and a frown. But, strangely, she listened. No interruptions were even attempted, but it wasn't for lack of attention. He wasn't wrong about the fighting. She wouldn't concede the counseling bit just yet, mind you. That was important. But he had a point in some regard.

"I don't hate you either, for the record. I think I maybe made it seem that way."

She tucked one arm behind her back. The fidgeting, this time, was from guilt more than any frustration or insult she felt had been thrown her way. "I just... don't really know what I'm doing with myself right now. I'm not saying I won't consider it, but I'm not saying I'll do it either."

God, this was awkward.  Selwyn could understand, now, the guys who said staying friends with your ex was a bad idea.

He moved a little way from the stall, because... well.

"No," he said, "I never thought you hated me. It felt more like you were afraid of me. I could never tell whether the things you said were because you thought I wanted to hear them, or because you really believed them.  It made me feel like I was taking advantage of you."

"That's why I said you should see someone," he explained.  "It might be nothing.  We might just be incompatible or something.  But if that happens with another guy and he doesn't have a problem with it, it means he probably is taking advantage of you.  And if I hadn't said anything, that would make it my fault."
