The wolf felt better after the howl. The human let out its own howl, one that also seemed to express mirth, and the wolf felt its muscles relax. This was a pack-mate. Her instincts had always pushed her towards finding a pack, but some uncertainty from within had turned her into a solitary creature, especially since the human pup stopped coming along. But this man seemed as though he could be a good partner.
His hand reached out and she leaned forward, sniffing it as she drew nearer, before finally leaning forward and touching her nose to the flesh. She snuffled a bit and then reached further up his arm, taking in more of the scent as his fingers reached behind her ear. Her spine tingled at the touch and she arched her back slightly. There were just some spots her paws could not reach so well.
He sat down and the wolf continued to look him over, acquainting herself with the strangeness of the human form. He reached for a bag and she turned her head, her nose now picking up the scent that came from the bag next to the one he was looking into. She turned and headed for the bag, digging her snout into it before... oh yes.
She dragged out a marrow bone, a monthly treat that the human inside prepared for. Not quite hungry yet, because the human worked hard to get her protein count up the days before the transformation, she dropped the bone and swatted at it with her paw twice before it rolled over to the new human. She looked up. He was a pack mate, but if he was about to eat her bone, there were going to be problems.
