Anyone who knew anything about Goose knew that he was looking forward to Herbology. His interest in plants had been heavily encouraged at home, and he had often spent entire days shadowing whichever person was resident Herbologist at the time, be it cousin Charlie, Max, or Vivianna. When Charlie left for her trip, and Max left for family, and Vivianna stepped out to have her own life, the greenhouse became his kingdom. He found himself quickly having to get acquainted with plants he did not know as well just so he could get to his succulents. Plants and potions. Both had become of extreme interest to him.
It helped that you didn't need to be able to cast spells to be a good Herbologist.
It also helped now that he felt acquainted with his professor.
He tried not to tip his hat to his familiarity with Professor McKillon, knowing his classmates might find that to be a point on which he could be teased. His eyes did scan for her son, however, but he was distracted as they entered the greenhouse.
Of course, Layabout Lane only had room for the one greenhouse. The other plants littered the front and back gardens, reaching out to trip and tangle unsuspecting passerbys. But even with both gardens and the greenhouse, nothing could have prepared him for the Hogwarts greenhouse, crammed full of plants he did and did not recognize. His search for Charlie Jericho momentarily suspended, he cast his eyes around in wonder at the vines wafting in the air, the leaves trembling from the disturbance of the opened door.
Maddie, er, Professor McKillon brought him back to earth and he found his hand was hardly in the air before he said, "Dittany's for healing. You can use both its essence or the plant in raw form for flesh wounds." He would know. Layabout Lane went through more than their fair share of Dittany.
