Destrey loved teaching the smaller students best. They were young and naive and so eager to learn. Well, they would be eager to learn by the time she was done with this lesson, anyway.
"Hurry up," she said as they all scrambled to sit with their friends or not sit with their enemies.
It was already halfway through the day, she was sure at least some of them had enemies by now.
"All right, what first?"
Destrey glanced down at the parchment where her outline for this lesson was scrawled. Selwyn had forced her to make a "lesson plan" after discovering that some of the students hadn't even learnt her name last year. That wasn't her fault. They ought to have taken the initiative.
"Uh-huh. I'm Professor Ashcroft," she said, glancing up. "Obviously, I teach Defence, so if you're not here for that, or if you're not in first or second year, this is the wrong classroom."
She stared at the sea of faces, half hoping someone would walk out.
"Today," she went on, falling into a more natural patter, "we're going to be learning about the Unforgivable Spells."
Destrey waved her wand toward the board, where a list of questions appeared:
- What are the three Unforgivable Spells?
- What do each of them do?
- Why are they unforgivable?
- Why are you learning about them in your first lesson?
"Just call out the answers, if you think you know," she said.
