Selwyn stood at the entrance to the "Labyrinth" near the back of the Shrieking Shack. In reality, it was hardly a labyrinth, but for a Halloween party, it did its part in adding to the atmosphere.
And it was way more interesting than charming those so-called "monsters" to jump out at people. He spent enough time around things that jumped out at him to not want to do it on... well, this was kind of a holiday even if he was technically working.
He pulled the ridiculous cowl of his cloak further forward and looked up at the jar that had been wired to the top of the staff he'd been given for the evening. Someone had decided he needed to stand out, just in case the children got lost, and now he was weighed down with this thing. A long branch inexpertly topped with a jar of bluebell flames. He might donate it to Vaughn's carving stash when tonight was over.
A couple of students wandered near.
"Welcome to the Labyrinth!" Selwyn tried to sound suitably ghoulish as he indicated the gate behind him.
