Jack stiffened at her question. He put his arms, palms facing up, on the table, and showed them to her. When quickly glancing, you might not be able to tell the difference between them besides the lack of hair that was on his right arm, but upon further inspection it could be seen that there were a few other discrepancies. His right arm had tighter skin, and was a bit bumpier than his left arm. It also had a reddish tint to it, as if it was permanently burnt.
"A Dragon got lose, and I couldn't exactly handle that, so I left the force."
Jack kept it short and simple, he didn't want to elaborate on what happened, not only for fear of choking up, but just the idea of putting everything into words gave Jack anxiety all over again, so he kept his mouth quiet. While she flipped through his notes, Jack stared at Tris. He was surprised as she looked at his notes, somehow being able to understand it, and he looked down bashfully as her words processed through his head.
Him? An author? Jack was barely able to write down those notes in that book. Maybe he'd be able to muster up the dedication to put it in a fully fledged book someday, though. Maybe if he was bored enough one day. And besides, Jack just got a new job, so he actually had to do real work in the coming weeks.
"T-thanks, Sophie, but I, uh, I already got a job at Hogwarts. I'm the new Charms Professor over there, and Head of Ravenclaw, I think. But, uh, maybe in my freetime I'll think about that book."
He smiled sheepishly at her compliment as he spoke. He looked at his cold glass of water, little droplets forming on the sides and sliding down them, running through the light film of frost that covered the outside of the glass.
