"Your mother has bodyguards? Can I ask what for? Is there something I should know about what your mother thinks she needs protection from?" he asked, finding that not generally typical for the wizarding world. If he were going to get Rose, he felt he needed to know if there were going to be some reason to have all their eyes open.
"I'm not concerned they have no sense of humor. A good many don't. If their employer doesn't allow them to have much leeway to be anything but formal with them. And sometimes, they're just trained to be very formal."
He took her out the kitchen door, down a cobblestone path, through some flowering trees, to a log guest cabin.
"I know you're big on being independent," he said. "This cabin has been part of the property for a long time, but we rarely use it. I like it because its just a few steps from the main house, so it would provide you and Rose all the safety of the main house, but the independence you like. Come take a look."
He unlocked the door and opened it. It was a cabin he had always liked because of the open floor plan, the large windows that filled the place with sunshine, the river rock fireplaces in almost every room, the kitchen with the cabinets stained red, and the bright colors that the whole place was decorated in.
"Its just a two bedroom, and there's a huge bath that is right in between the two bedrooms," he said. "There are french doors in the main living area that opens to the pool area, and the french doors in the master bedroom open to a small brick courtyard for privacy where you could have morning tea. The courtyard is pretty nice. Some trees, lots of flowers, and a fountain.
"Here's the thing. The guest houses do need to be lived in periodically so we're on top of the maintenance of them. You'd be doing Brian a favor, really. We could talk rent, but he's needing someone to live in it anyway. You certainly wouldn't need to stay forever if you didn't want. But, it might give you a chance to catch your breath in between your place and Hogsmeade. And, the other big plus for you and Rose is that you'd be safe.
"You're welcome to stay in the house as long as you want, but I know you won't want that forever. You don't have to accept this either, but, its at least an option for you."
