It had been a while since Hallie had met up with Nick, the two had been in the same year at Hogwarts and although were not exactly the closest of friends (that position would always be filled by Maura Goldstein) Hallie knew that the fellow Gryffindor was someone she could depend on and had been able to since they first shared a boat together upon their sail across the black lake in the first year upon arriving at Hogwarts. Now was one of those moments when Hallie needed Nick. He was mature, yet fun and a good listener. The blonde's natural choice would be to ask Maura but with her being overly busy at St Mungos, raising a child and trying to keep her marriage afloat and she couldn't exactly speak to her Mother about it so Hallie felt it best that she speak to somebody else, somebody who may be a bit more helpful: Nick Potter.
It was a Wednesday evening and Nick had agreed to meeting Hallie at six o clock in the Three Broomsticks. At this time desperate travelers were seeking shelter as the night sky began to creep in and as expected the pub was packed: Perfect for a private conversation as nobody would be able to overhear given the noise of everyone in the pub.
Choosing a round table for two in the corner not too far from the fire Hallie sat down and waited for her friend who'd taken up a teaching position at Hogwarts. A glass of firewhiskey and cola to calm her nerves was perching on the table, her chin resting the palm of her hands as she tried to think through how she would explain everything to Nick. It was difficult to tell someone about something when you were confused and had no idea how to think things through. Then again that was the whole purpose of meeting Nick, so that she could order her thoughts and have some input from him and maybe suggestions on how she could answer her questions:
Was her Father a member of the Order? Was he a death eater? Why had the death eaters killed him? Was her Father even dead? No. That answer Hallie knew for certain: he had to be, she'd seen his dead body with her own eyes but... But what if it wasn't him? No. It was him. But how could she be so certain? As of late Hallie felt as though she was seeing her Father everywhere, especially at the ministry but then again that was where he worked, where she associated him. Wasn't it natural to see his ghost there... Although Hallie wasn't certain that her Father even worked at the ministry.
Upon getting her auror position back Hallie had stayed late at the office one night and looked back at her Father's records. He'd never arrested many death eaters. In fact he hadn't done that much and most of his later missions were classified to a point where... There were no documents and the documents ended a lot earlier before his death. What had he been doing for those years whenever he claimed to be going to the ministry to work? Did her Mother know? Even if she did there was a chance that Amelia was just as clueless as Hallie given how upset and empty she was following his death. Hallie couldn't include her Mother in any of this.
