Michael watched the students enter. He saw their mixed reactions to an older professor, and John's reaction to seeing Michael was not something Michael had missed. He cracked just a trace of an amused smile.
"Hello, John," Michael said. He didn't want to necessarily answer a question about Steven right at the moment because he wanted to respect Steven's privacy about his life and his work.
"Good morning," Michael said. "I am Professor Tremaine, and I am to be, at least for now, your professor for Defense Against the Dark Arts. It's my job to teach you how to use a wand to keep yourselves alive and, preferably, safe. Previous professors were limited in what they could teach you. However, inasmuch as the wizarding world is an increasingly dangerous place, perhaps we ought to dispense with those old playful lessons and get down to the rather serious and important business of survival. I presume you're all up for that, yes?" He looked at them all.
"Given that we were all rudely introduced to this school year by an assault by werewolves, perhaps we ought to start with those. What do you all know about werewolves, then?"
