Throwing his hands together enthusiastically at the sight of the cat, Elijah smiled broadly at Brice. The animal soon disappeared, an expected inevitable given it was only newly corporeal, but that didn’t matter. The Patronus Charm was a wilful thing. He could not boast a proficiency in it but in truth no one could. It wasn’t a power anyone was meant to really harness.
“Just make sure you’re getting the incantation right,” Elijah corrected him smoothly. “Expecto patronum. You’re slipping a bit there. The Patronus Charm is the name, the incantation is different. Patronum is the spell, the Patronus the creature itself. Bear that in mind.”
Elijah, now resting easy knowing that the form was revealed. He took a seat back down on the grass. He sat back thoughtfully, twirling his wand between his fingers, and he decided that perhaps it would be time to start considering the actual form. He wouldn’t get it in a day. He wouldn’t get it in two, either. It was dangerous Transfiguration. Nothing worked quite a simply as Charms tended to.
“You need to keep practising that,” Elijah informed Brice gently. “Because that’s going to focus your mind. Then I want you to start considering over the coming weeks and months the different aspects of the animal. The paws, the ears, the tail and so on. You need to be able to perceive each piece on yourself before you can turn. I wouldn’t advise trying it today without all of that in mind, however. I think it would be best to wait a while. At least until Christmas. Once you have all of this in your head, perhaps we can see you turned then.”
