Jack would not say anything for the good of the group but, if she had her choice, Elijah would not be at this meeting. She just... never knew where his true loyalties lied. She had a horrible feeling he was much more corrupt than he let on, and his quick rise in the Ministry (with no evidence of hard work to back it) suggested to her that there was a problem. Worse yet, while many trusted him, Michael Tremaine did not seem to believe so heartily in the young Krum man. That was enough to assure Jack that she was not crazy for distrusting Elijah.
And he had touched her hair. No one touched her hair.
So she could not keep the edge of sass out of her voice when she corrected him. "That's several questions, Mr Krum. But I'd be happy to answer them. I have seen the lists. I have tested their inability to move. We know because I have intercepted plans. Yes, there is every possibility that it could be a trap, but every run-in we have with Death Eaters run that risk. I severely doubt it, however, because the information did not have a date or time, which would have been there if they had been intending to trap us there at a specific time. I don't know that they know. If they do, they will be just as prepared as we are - moreso if we stress the discussion of what is to come rather than prepare for it. I understand that these circumstances are odd, but questioning them does not stop them from being so."
Here, she paused, looking back at Elijah. "Speaking of odd circumstances, I have a brief several questions for you. You were our eye in the Ministry. Would you care to enlighten us, your friends and peers, on how this marriage law madness came into existence. And any chance we may have of overturning it? And any other pertinent information that may carry us out of the dark?" The shine in her eyes was nearly undetectable, saved for him alone. Jack was offering him the chance to prove that he was not completely worthy of her distrust. If he proved himself, she would give him more of a chance. If not... they might need to arrange a talk.
