“I’m sorry, what?”
“He’s on the run. From Death Eaters. He-“
“No, I heard you.”
She hadn't exactly been very polite to the woman, though the fact that Kaiden had given Audriana's name to Addie made her feel a little guilty about it. At least she had come through, if one was speaking technically. They knew, now.
The world didn’t quite look the same anymore, if Adrienne was being honest. Everything she had believed about her brother for the past nine years was a complete lie. After only four years at school, Asher had somehow found his way into some seriously messed up bout of Death Eater madness (yes, she was going to keep calling it that. She didn’t care if being seventeen probably meant that she should use better vocabulary. Even for a Ravenclaw, she was too mixed up to worry about it). By the time anyone had found out, or tried to help him, it was too late.
Asher had been on the run since she was ten, if Audriana’s story was to be believed. Addie found that she couldn’t not believe it. Nothing else added up, though she had ignored this fact over the years. More and more as the years passed she would push aside any realistic possibilities, ignoring her Ravenclaw sensibilities and just hoping.
Her parents. Wyatt. They all knew now. They had been in the room when Audriana Swan had shown up, sat down, told the story, and had waited until their questions were finished before leaving silently. It was like she had brought a cloud and left it to rain on the lot of them. He didn’t want to be found. Didn’t want them to get involved.
Adrienne knew she should appreciate his concern, but instead she was just angry. Angry that he had lied, that he wasn’t who he said he was or who he used to be. Furious that he had left without a word or note.
She needed to talk to Kaiden.
Standing for the first time in what felt like hours, but was perhaps only one, Adrienne made her way upstairs to the guest room where her parents had allowed him to stay (mind, Addie knew they were fairly confused and slightly displeased by the whole situation. But at least they hadn’t turned him away. So that was something.).
“Kaiden.” She gasped out, knocking lightly on the door before letting her palm rest against it. “Kaiden, I need to talk to you.”
