I would like to point something out. I hope everyone gives me a chance and reads it.
This site has been through a lot. Quite a bit, really. I've been fortunate to experience this site from all sides. New member, regular member, mod, admin, and back to a very-involved member. I haven't been super active lately, being busy and all, but still.
This site is here so people can write with their friends. The plot is not important. The member count is not important. And yes, the rules are not important. We have a word count so we don't get spam and so we can encourage growth in writing. We approve characters for the sake of the other writers. This site is not here so people can rule over other people. It is not here for politics. It's not here to fulfill a plot. The rules, the plot, the politics should all serve the members, to encourage them to do what we are here to do.
My acting professor and mentor told me that the goal in life for artistic people "is to make art we enjoy with people we love."
PA started out as that for me, then being an admin made it a little less, then stuff made me want to leave. I've talked with other people who have left or wanted to leave, and they usually had feelings of the same - it simply wasn't fun anymore. And this site exists for enjoyment, yes? Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're here because we enjoy writing and this is another medium to do it.
I hope people read this and don't feel sad. I want people to know - you have every right to have fun. You do. This site belongs to everyone, not to the mods or the admins. Everyone is meant to enjoy it and it is up to you to do that. People take internet drama very seriously nowadays, but realize... it's not personal. Yelling at someone over PM or whatever literally just means you've put on CAPS lock, nothing more.
I'm sad that you plan on leaving, Thaor. I hope you can find somewhere else to enjoy your writing.
And I just hope that everyone takes a small gander at this. This isn't passive-aggression, it's not angst, and it's not just a crazy person's ramblings. It's something that took me a long time to figure out, and I hope it helps anyone who reads it.
