Exams Are Out!

As Zane told her his career opportunities it seemed strange for her to see Zane contemplating different options. All Hallie had ever wanted to be was an auror, sure she had back up plans and plans for when her auror days come to an end but she knew that becoming an auror was the only passionate decision for her proceed with. 

Hallie wanted to say that being an auror was more than just protecting people, although Zane probably knew that already. The way he simply summed up the role made the job sound easy, something which irritated slightly - mainly because of the amount of study she had to put in for her NEWT's in order to get the grades.

'I'm sure everything will fall into place.' She replied with a smile, casting aside his comment about an auror. She didn't know much about him and from the five minutes they'd been chatting his personality didn't scream auror. Despite that Hallie did believe that Zane would become successful, definitely high up in the ministry at least.

Zane thought for a moment that he'd seen Hallie look frustrated at his response. It surprised him, though, as she had just said how Aurors had more fun and the like. He had meant it as something to regard with high respect, and to have as an idol. In all honesty, the Auror idea had come to him rather recently, and he was having a hard time seeing it as his life. He wanted the ability to protect others, but wasn't sure he was the type to run off on missions all the time. He didn't exactly think there was an office job for Aurors, but if there was, he'd likely take it. He almost laughed at the thought.

"Of course," He agreed, nodding even as he observed her, "It will all depend on next year and my grades. But there's other times to worry about that." He added, deciding to just go with the positive.

Hallie smiled weakly a the sun dazzled her blue eyes. 'I suppose' She replied, gazing down at her shoes. She suppose people could do that but why leave something to tomorrow when it could be done today. Life wa short and the memory of being tortured, seeing Maura's dead body in the shrieking shack still burnt the inside of her skull. There had been too many negative happenings in her life: the death of her Father and estrangement of her brother, then that night in Hogsmede had made it a whole lot worse.

It was odd to think a moment ago Hallie had been thinking happily about the slight things of Hogwarts that made the time there special, yet that was now polluted with the dark thoughts, as though the sun had retreated behind the clouds casting the courtyard into shadow. Ever since the scene in the shrieking shack Hallie had found herself suddenly thinking back about it randomly, whenever she needn't to.

'I'm sorry I said I would meet someone round about now.' Hallie replied with genuine sincerity. She didn't want to come across like Zane was poison, he wasn't in fact he seemed pleasant but right now Hallie had an urge to be with Maura. To enjoy the times they had left together. Sure they might live a long, healthy life, but time was short. She'd learnt that and she wanted to spend time with people she really cared about. To have fun. Well, at least until she got over the psychological trauma watching your friends being tortured before your eyes.
'See you again.' Hallie added with a guilty smile before taking her belongings and herself out of the courtyard in search of Maura.
