Erika was strange, for sure, but in a cute, harmless kind of way. Quite...fascinating; appealing. Stop letting your mind wander. Kate reprimanded herself sternly. Stop thinking.
Erika talked to herself, which wasn’t all that uncommon, although she did most of it out loud, which was unusual, as if she was actually speaking to another person. But, Kate didn’t know as much as others about the wizarding world, being a muggle-born, and so maybe invisible people we’re all the norm. Although she was sure that would have been in at least one of the textbooks, being a fifth year and all. Maybe she’d overlooked it.
Relief swept over Kate as Erika offered to leave, grateful she’d get some dancing in. She hadn't been able to all week, thanks to the tedious, overload of homework she had for classes, courtesy of the upcoming OWLS. But as the girl stood up, she was unsteady on her feet, and had to support herself on the wall.
“Do you need some help?” Kate asked, worried Erika would faint, which was something she really didn’t want to deal with, “You don’t look…okay.” Kate really, really wanted to dance, but she couldn’t let Erika leave alone if she wasn’t well. Sigh. Why couldn’t she just be a B****, for once?
Instead, Kate added quickly, “You can stay if you want. I’m, uh…, just going to be dancing. I need to practice.” She blushed, not used to an audience. “So if you don’t mind watching, you can, uh, stay.”
