A different friend

Bella could usually be found, in the Quidditch Stadium. She played Chaser for the Ravenclaw Team, and loved the way the wind blew in her face. She gripped the wooden handle of her broom, and kicked off. Her tied-up ponytail, broke apart as the first gust of wind she encountered nearly blew her off her broom. She held a quaffle in her other hand, and charged at the furthest goal rings, and threw with all her might, it missed. She cried in frustration, she'd usually never miss a goal, but she hadn't practised for weeks, as she revised for OWL's next year.

She dove to the ground, and picked up the quaffle, and concentrated, she sighed, and threw it as fast as she could. Yes! she screamed, alerting some other students who were practising as well. "Sorry" she said aloud. And dove to the ground, and hopped off her broom. She started to take of her arm pads, but saw someone, 'You practising too?".

Ellie was doing what might be considered flying. The girl who had stepped on a broomstick maybe three times in her entire life had signed up for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, simply for the novelty of doing something she had never done before. The stupid sickness had prevented her from finishing her seventh year, and now she and her friends had to retake the entire year for the two or three months they had missed. Ellie had taken it with dignity, dramatically altering the way she went about learning. The studious, meticulous girl had become louder, more mischievous, and more daring.

However, she had not gained any aptitude in flying. Ellie had borrowed a school broom and was flying a few feet off the ground, pulling the handle upwards in frustration, but the broom seemed more afraid to fly than she was. She had that big ball, the Qoof-something-or-other, she had never really paid attention, and she wanted to practice shooting them from the big stick things. BUT HER DAMNED BROOM-

"MERLIN CURSE YOU," she shrieked at the broom, before glancing up and spotting another girl. Ellie knew the girl by sight, as they were both in Ravenclaw, but the girl was younger, so Ellie didn't know much more. Ellie pondered the girl's question and responded, "Define practicing."

"Well...' she said bluntly, "are you performing an activity, or exercising a skill, maybe?" she knew she sound brainy, so she attempted to tone it down, "are you working on your skills, for quidditch?" Damn it Bella, now you sound stupid. "I give up" she said aloud.

"Anyways, I'm Bella Evans," she said extending her arm, "I play Chaser for the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. Do you play?"

She looked at the girl, she was definitely older than her by comparison, taller, her facial features were outlined more etc. "So, what year are you?" she asked curiously.

Elliot blinked at the girl, who was trying so hard to be clever, that she was failing. "I only meant that if this is supposed to be practice, I am failing so miserably that you couldn't call it that. Not rightfully anyway." She grinned and the broom bucked. "Yeah, well piss off!" she said to it, hopping off of it.

She gripped the girl's hand. "I'm Ellie Hansen. I have never played a game in my life, but why not try it out, huh?" She grinned. "Besides. My boyfriend is trying out for the team. Darius Prynn." She loved the word boyfriend now.

"Actually, I'm a seventh year again. I got the sickness last year and missed all my exams. I have to take my last year again. It's totally lame."

'That would be lame, imagine having to do it all again, while your friends graduated and got jobs, I couldn't imagine it' she said thinking. "So we're both taken then, I'm going out with a Slytherin boy, Caiden Elliot Aritza, Chef at the three Broomsticks."

"Do you want to go practise?" she asked, she was all for making new friends. "If you want, you can use my broom, and I'll use yours, it'll give you more practise" and with that she mounted the school broom, and kicked off.

"Super cool!" Ellie said, sincerely happy for the girl. It was so much easier to be happy for other people's relationships now that she was in one. Of course, she considered herself to be supreme in mirth regarding the relationship but she could objectively see why other people might be happy at their own romantic success.

Ellie shrugged, saying, "I don't have my own room so I'll end up using one of the school brooms, but it might be nice to practice on something that, y'know, works." She swapped the girl brooms and mounted hers, rising in the air. "There we go," she said. She cautiously began to fly a lap around the stadium, picking up a little speed every time she made it about a quarter of the way around.
