Purposes other than intended

"Boring, boring, boring."

Destrey's shiny red fingernail trailed across the packaging of each product as she pronounced its inferiority.

"Oh, look at this," she called as that same finger looped underneath the handcuffs to dangle them in the air for Shylock's consideration.

"I wonder what I could use these for?" she asked, moments before the cuffs clicked and fell to the floor.

"It says here they're for muggle magic tricks," Shylock supplied after momentary scrutiny of the display. "You know, like Criss Angel."

Destrey made a noise of derision and left the cuffs where they'd landed while she turned back to the other Weasley products.

"You know, I really have no use for one, but the idea of a portable swamp intrigues me. Where's the shop assistant, anyway?"

Jack raised her eyebrow and pointed her wand at the fallen candcuffs, standing a few paces away from the pair that were perusing her shelves with a bored expression. She commanded the cuffs to bounce off of the pair, rebounding between the two- not enough to hurt, as Jack did not want a lawsuit, but enough to be annoying.

She stepped forward, catching the tail end of the girl's comment. She snatched the handcuffs from the air and held them in front of the two, subtely ending the spell with one flick of her wand. "Sorry. They have a thing against being turned into litter."

She put the cuffs back on the shelf and looked back at the two. "You said something about a swamp, yes? The shop assistants are busy but I can do you one better and get the help of the owner."

The girl's actions didn't agree with her words. She wasn't a shop assistant, but she knew all about the products (like hell those handcuffs had levitated by themselves) and she'd go fetch the owner for them. REALLY?

"Would you?" Destrey asked with a smile.

"Though, in a place like this, the owner would really just be a glorified shop assistant. When you think about it," she added as an aside to her brother.

The girl seemed very pleased with the fact that Jack was offering to introduce her to the owner, even after her minor inconderate actions with the products. Jack had on this expression of civility that would have terrified anyone who knew her. She turned around slowly, hearing a whisper behind her, and turned back around.

She stepped forward and seized the girl's hand and shook it. "Hi, the name is Jack Dyllan, I own Weasleys'. What can I do you for?"

Oh, such a surprise! The red head was the owner of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Destrey didn't know what was going on with the surname; she looked too young to be married, but who knew? People tied the knot for the most ridiculous reasons these days. Someone got knocked up and instead of taking a discreet potion like any sensible witch would, the next thing you knew she was walking down the aisle.

Anyhow, Destrey found her hand being suddenly shaken. She grimaced. What was it with everyone's innate need to touch her without warning or asking? Fortunately, Shylock was there to save the day before she stabbed the other girl in the face, gently parting their hands with that meek smile people seemed to like so much and taking over the shaking responsibilities.

"I want to know what happens when people ingest Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder," Destrey said.

Perhaps there was some advantage of speaking to the owner over the shop assistants, but Destrey wasn't the sort to take back a jibe once made.

Jack was incredibly pleased with the reaction she had gotten from the younger patrons, what with the perfection combination of abashment and surprise. The girl looked further irritated with Jack's greeting of her, which only increased her pleasure. The girl's companion seemed to calm her down a bit and took Jack's hand, which she shook too.

Jack cocked her head at the girl's question. "Well, the Powder is not exactly for ingesting, now is it. What causes you to ask such a question?"

"Well, duh."

Destrey resisted rolling her eyes at that one. Was it too late to pretend she was some kind of inspector?

"But it does look like a very fine powder. Suppose someone breathed it in?" she said. "I wouldn't want anybody to get hurt from a prank gone wrong."

She wandered over to the wonder witch products.

"And these love potions, exactly how potent are they? What effects could I expect from one of those?"

Jack's smirk only widened as the girl seemed irritated by her comment. Jack had said the comment cheekily and with the expectation that the girl would be annoyed by her fake ignorance. Ah, Jack loved watching these teeny-boppers getting their panties in a wad.

Jack shrugged and said, "It'd give you a cough. But your stomach acid is pretty strong and it wouldn't do much. Your blood vessels might have trouble finding their way around in there-" She smirked more widely at her own joke.

Jack followed the girl to the witch products and responded, "The darker the shade of the glass, the more potent. These-" Jack picked up a pale pink bottle "cause mild flirtations and daydreams. This-" she picked up a bloodred bottle "well, we don't even sell this one to minors."

Immediately, Destrey lost interest. She had hoped for something slightly sickening and although a fainting fancy or puking pastille would do that job nicely, all of the teachers and the hospital wing nurses had caught on years ago. She wanted something unique.

The red bottle hung from the older girl's fingers like a taunt. Destrey could easily have grabbed it and been out of the shop before the other knew what was happening, but that would be pointless; it was obvious she and Shylock were from the school.

"Well, that is interesting," she declared, as her gaze swept about the premises one last time.

"It's a pity that the customer service here is so bad," she was again ostensibly speaking to her brother, "else I would definitely have bought some. Let's go."

Destrey turned away from the shop keeper and made towards the door.
