relaxing after a long day of Class

It was late in the afternoon. Classes had just gotten out for the day and that meant that it was time to be outside and play or spend time with friends or pets. Some even chose this time to study though they were also scattered around the grounds. Others chose this time to pull pranks on others. Today Rena had decided to go down to the lake by herself. Normally she would be with either her elder brother Prince or her best friend in the whole world Ashton, though she had seen neither in the past week or so. Sighing she looked down at her feet as she walked and smiled as she saw her ever so present cat. He was a little white kitten with black paws, and thanks to his paws his named was Socks. “Hello Socksy,” She said, “Have you seen Dukey anywhere? Or is he also hiding?” The eleven year old girl knew that the cat could not answer but she liked to think that it under stood her in a way. He always seemed to know when she was down and needed cheering up. Or if was happy. She also liked to believe that cats chose their people. That they were not your pets to claim. You were theirs to claim.
As the two reached the Lake Serena began to grow tired of walking like a normal person and began to skip. As she did so her hair was lifted up off her back with each little hop. At the water’s edge she sat down crossing her legs in front of her in what some one call Indian style. Socks climbed into her lap turned three times and laid down. It wasn’t long before he was asleep and purring quietly. The young girl idly petted her cat as she watched the sun glint off of the water. As the wind made ripples on its surface. Off toward the middle you could see little bubbles coming up from the deepest part. Maybe there was a Mermaid watching her from not far below but scared to brake though the waters top.

"Darwin!"

The chameleon ran faster than she had ever seen him run, his colors rapidly changing between natural colors and bright pastels and neon colors. The sixth year who had tried out whatever spell had sent Darwin into this frenzy might have been laughing, had Wally not turned around and gave her best stinging hex. It hit him square in the face, in the eye really. He was still howling.

"DARWIN!"

He was headed right for a girl and the closer Wally got, the better she saw the kitten that was accompanying the younger-looking girl at the lake. Wally's blood ran cold. Chameleons were kitty chow. "Don't let your cat get him!" she shouted to the other girl. She huffed, trying to run faster. She could not lose Darwin now. He was her only real friend.

Once Serena heard someone scream and Socks immediately awoke she hugged her cat close to her coughing into his fur. “Ahh!” She screamed herself after noticing the green monster that had climbed into her lap without her realizing at first. She jumped to her feet the coughing mixed with the screaming made an awful croaking noise that sounded more like a frog than a human. “What is that icky thing?” She coughed at the girl who had yelled first, “Why shouldn’t I let Socks eat it? If he likes it and it’s no longer climbing on me,” She said a little rudely as she glared at the other older girl.

Wally finally reached the other girl at the end of the grounds, and her eyes ignored the girl and her feline and immediately trained on her scaly friend. The girl jumped up which caused Darwin to slip from her lap and fall onto the ground. Wally swooped down and snatched up Darwin, pulling him to her and stepping away. She turned and slowly ran a finger down his spine until he relaxed and fell asleep. The younger girl was screeching in her ear. Wally turned and looked at her with a cold, empty stare.

"What are you squeaking about?" she cocked her head, having honestly not listened to the younger girl's annoying screeching.

“That thing attacked me and my cat!” She squealed some more and began to cough into her cats fury body. “How can you treat that monster like a pet? You will be paying if that thing makes Socks sick!” the gat was hissing at the lizard the older girl held and kissed as Rena glared at it and its owner. “That thing shouldn’t be in existence! And I will be reporting it to the head master.” Slowly the side of Serena’s body was turning green thanks to a horrible and irritable rash that was unlike anything she had ever heard of from her father who had read every book in their massive home library.

Wally's entire face scrunched in distaste for this girl, who she found incredibly repulsive in every sort of way- her personality making her even more insufferable. Wally slipped Darwin into one of her deep pockets where he remained curled, content to be hidden from the cruel world that had made him suffer. "Monster? I only see one monster here and she's screeching about being attached by an herbivore. Darwin could not hurt you- but you wouldn't know that. You would have to be able to read to know these simple facts. Go ahead and report me. Professor Lyons will tell you the same." The girl turned her head and revealed a gross green looking rash on her face. Wally made a big show of pointing. "See? You're turning into a monster. Told you."

“No I’m not!” Serena said stomping her foot and glaring at the girl. “I bet you have the rash to! Everyone is sick! Everyone has it…” Serena’s spoiled bratty attitude faded away as she broke into another fit of coughing and sank to the ground again as she held her cat close. “And Socks wouldn’t have eaten your tiny dinosaur any way; He only eats the best most expensive wet cat food found on this planet.” She spoke though the coughs. He’d probably just scratch it or something.” She hid her face in socks fur and closed her eyes mumbling something about wanting her mommy and daddy and how being sick sucked.

Wally was becoming more and more aware of the fact that this snotty little girl before her was, indeed, the younger of the two. Therefore, she had no right to talk with such a superior, confident tone. Therefore, Wally had the right to instruct her otherwise. Wally had no reason to be fair or honest with the little brat, and Wally was not intending to. Her eyes shine a bit and she stepped forward.

"I'm not sick. Hardly anyone's sick. You must be going crazy, because you're the only one I've seen that bad." Of course, Wally's own rash had begun on her hip, but the girl did not know that. "You know... I had an uncle that had a green spot like that. He got it, and died a few days later." The girl was rubbing her face all over her cat, like a kitty-kleenex. Wally pointed at the cat and said, "You probably got the disease from the mangy thing."
