Jess smiled as his students entered the classroom, each of them taking their seats and getting their stuff out, ready for what was sure to be, in his opinion, an interesting lesson.
"Good day to you all," he said, pushing himself away from his desk and clasping his hands together. "I hope you all had a nice break... I know I did, getting away from all you lot was a welcome relief," he said, pausing to give a quick wink before continuing.
"Today though we return, alas. The peace and quiet that filled the halls over Christmas is shattered," he said, a look of disappointment crossing his face for a second before he grinned. "I suppose though, we'd better add our own noise. Today's lesson will be on the supersensory charm - a very handy spell to know in all sorts of situations in your everyday lives from now until you die," he told them, "Hopefully that wont happen too soon," he added with a short laugh.
"Anyway. The supersensory charm. As the name suggests, it is a spell we use to enhance one's own senses. This includes hearing, sight, smell... all that good stuff. Trust me, it can come in handy when eating bland food. You pick up on the good bits like it's full of them," he explained, chuckling a little at his own truly awful example.
"The incantation for this charm is Augende Sensibus. The method for casting this spell is, in all honesty, sort of hard to explain," he told them, frowning as he figured out the proper wording. "What you need to do, and this is going to sound very hippy-like for me, but what you need to do is kind of detach yourself from the environment around you. Funny huh, the way to enhance your senses is to block them out. Of course, this does become easier over time. Eventually you wont even realise you're doing it, simply casting the spell will suffice as your mind is attuned to what you're doing. This level of practice is incredibly handy, as I'm sure you've realised, in many situations, such as duels where you need to be quick on your toes and highly alert," he explained, smiling at them all.
"So, whilst you all work on clearing your minds, and don't try the spell just yet," he said, a stern look crossing his face for a moment, "who has any suggestions for uses of this spell?" he asked. "I have a few of my own, but I'd like to see what you guys think. Don't hesitate with your thoughts either, I wanna hear them," he told them with a smile.
