These Little Things

Pigs had little in common with dragons, and horses definitely had even less shared characteristics with the werewolves. But they were back in the realm of light hearted joking (or as light hearted as Jack could be nowadays) which was where Jack was most comfortable. Where things did not have dreadful repercussions, where there was little risk of real pain. That's why she regretted ever letting conversations between her and Ari progress past banter.

"Wandmaker, huh?" Jack said, her fingers instinctively slipping to her pocket to touch the thin piece of wood that rested there. "Good profession, that. I've dealt with a few myself." She did miss her old wand. She knew this one had all of the same characteristics, but... Still. It had proved itself at the battle, proved itself with her confrontations with Vito. But nothing beat your first wand. "Not quite as dangerous as a dragon, but wands have their merits," she joked, drinking her soda.
