Tokyo was hanging out with Michi at their mother's penthouse apartment in Paris. The two of them sat in the bay window and looked out over the Seine. The view was pretty- they could see Montmatre, but not Paris of the Arc-de-Triomphe. In the corner would have been la Place d'Italie, but it was obscured by buildings unfortunately. At night, it was a particularly splendid view. Directly below them was a busy bar and cafe area, and to the right, a string of museums, theatres and galleries that often hosted night-time events that required all the lights in Paris. It was beautiful- but today, it was dreary. The weather was humid, the sky was grey- it was not a gorgeous summer day like the tourists' pamphlets would have them believe.
'Do you ever get tired of being Michi?' Tokyo asked, breaking the silence that had had them sitting and staring out of the window.
'What do you mean?' asked Michi, confused. He quite liked himself. A lot, actually.
'Like, being Michi, instead of Mitch. I mean, you live in England, you're half-American, you haven't been to visit grandma and grandad in Japan in like, three years. Do you get over being Michi?'
Michi frowned. 'I never really noticed it. Most people assume my name is Mitchell anyway, I've never really bothered to correct anybody.' He paused, then said 'I suppose it's not as bad as being called Tokyo.'
'True,' Tokyo agreed. 'I don't know what the hell Mum was thinking when she thought it would be edging. My favourite was the time someone asked me if I was Paris Hilton's token asian friend.'
Michi tried not to laugh, but then looked at his sister who was grinning, and then let himself giggle a bit. The hot, sweaty weather had made him grouchy, but his sister knew how to make him laugh. She was a lot less serious, much more carefree than he. He assumed that was why she had been placed in Hufflepuff, because she was so laid-back. Speaking of being laid-back...
'So, what are you going to do this year?' he asked Tokyo, readjusting the t-shirt that was beginning to stick to his back. 'I mean, I'll be off to Hogwarts again in a few days, what about you? You're done with school now.'
Tokyo sighed. 'I don't know.' She pushed her hair behind her ears, then said 'I've been thinking about it, but I haven't really come to any conclusions. Michael keeps pressuring me to go to university here in Paris, but he doesn't seem to understand that university isn't really what witches do. I suppose it'd make more sense to him if he actually knew I was a witch, but oh well. I'm thinking... aw, no. That's stupid.'
Frowning again, Michi asked 'What is it? I bet it isn't stupid.'
After stepping up and opening a window to let in some air, Tokyo sighed, then she sat down and faced Michi. 'I've been thinking about starting up a foundation that can work on eliminating, or finding a cure for HIV and AIDS. I can work on both the magical and the Muggle community. It'd be a lot of work, a lot of fundraising and organising events and stuff, but I kinda wanna do it. I'd call it the Mariane Charity.'
Michi was silent for a minute, then smiled, and said 'Sounds awesome. You should do it. You know you'll get loads of support... and don't hesitate to ask me. you know I love to throw parties!'
