Lack of integrity could be seen on the faces of her parents. Even bargaining showed such cruelty, Charlotte feared that the mattress salesman would just give the high priced TempurPedic mattress free of charge to her parents. They surrounded the man, like he was prey. An innocent Gazelle stumbling on his feet, he most likely wouldn't last longer than a few more minutes, and then he would instantly lower the price after many comments on how the mayor of New York City was of much importance and deserved a lower price. Charlotte's impulses had her nearly jump her parents and yell at the man to run, but she tamed the beast within.
Charlotte only calmed down in fear of outing her supernatural self, and being shunned by her parents. She didn't want to lose another family after being abandoned by her previous mother, who she has no relevant connection to since being left on orphanage steps. Charlotte longed for the day she could meet her real family, get the answer to the questions she be longing to ask, and maybe feel less of freak if she had someone in close relation with her exact powers. Being abnormal wasn't her hearts desire, nor the hidden fact she had to get her ears rounded after one loud moth kid spotted her bare ear. She loathed that child, having to transfer schools and forced to go under reconstructive surgery. Still in the end she would had wanted to ears as normal as they appear now, but at her own will.
The man finally broke, and caved in on giving the his royal highness a discount. It wasn't really a satisfying win for her parents, free would was the goal, but Charlotte's father wouldn't want to be known for using his authority to get free things; although he does. Manipulation, authority, low morals, and Manhattan born was their upbringing so couldn't really ask more or less of them. "Power in power, more you have the more you'll succeed", a self-absorbed motto Charlotte's father had bestowed upon her, but words she never followed. She actually had moral standards, not everything is worth hurting someone over, or deliberately ruining a reputation. She irritating to her parents that she was nothing like them, they saw her power and why she didn't use it.
Hauling the TempurPedic Charlotte offered assistance, but her mother refused she that she lifted a finger in order to not ruining her manicure. Like she hadn't already done that, she just hid her hands from her mother so she wouldn't burst. Her mother was very temperamental, though she if got Charlotte started she answering to an electrical shock, straight from her palm. Her mother on the other hand enjoyed a challenge, so Charlotte was the one to back off. Fearing her mother wasn't a rare sight, even being the one with power didn't stop her fear, it actually made her more vulnerable. She knew her mother or father would expose her secret of obtaining powers, and state that she was a threat to them. Being excellent actors, liars, she was completely at their will
Charlotte shook every helping hand that hauled the useless mattress into a U-Haul truck. Her mother and father showed no gratitude, and thought the men could have down a better job in handling the product. Charlotte just rolled her eyes, looking into the distance towards a oddly pale man."Vampire, of course," she muttered to herself, and he looked quite intrigued. He was looking directly at her, hungry eyes and all, and Charlotte didn't take well to his stares as anyone obviously wouldn't. She hoped to get into the town car faster than he could catch up to her, lucky she had silver on hand. Waving to him with the silver chain in her hand to show she wasn't going down without a fight, though he didn't seem to be backing off as she hoped. Charlotte would be in dear need of help soon if townie didn't arrive at the right moment.
