Elijah continued to pay the kitten the affections she deserved but he lifted his head when Selene wandered over to him, that ginger nightmare in hand. Elijah narrowed his eyes at the animal and bopped him on the head before putting the kitten back down in her basket. Elijah had a hunch why Cooper was so standoffish towards him but he daren’t suggest it to Selene. Elijah gave a heavy sigh and ran a hand through his hair. His eyes drifted towards the windows and for the first time in a long time, he truly felt tired. A yawn soon accompanied those thoughts and Elijah pushed himself away from the cabinets. He brought his hand up to Selene’s face and smoothed her skin with his thumb before brushing his lips against her forehead. He smiled and rested his head against hers like he’d done ten years ago near enough to the day, before sailing past her towards the bedroom.
Sleep awaited him in its most precious form. As he sank into what had rapidly become her bed, he delved into the familiar scent that was Selene in all of her entirety. He smiled to himself and fell asleep right there, curled up among the scents and the smells that the room, the bed and the studio as a whole had to offer. But he went to sleep with that same wonder, that same fear, that perhaps maybe, it was time to let Selene go and whether he’d actually made the mistake of not allowing her to live her life the way she should have done ten years ago. What he’d stolen from her was irreplaceable. It was something Elijah Nathaniel Krum could not blag himself out of.
