Bran laughed when Chase seemed just the slightest bit disgusted at the subject of his tests. He had indeed been testing saliva, and the fact that it came from a gnome almost made it seem worse. She seemed slightly surprised when she said she was ready, as if she had forgotten. He wasn't surprised himself. Chase could get so caught up in her work that she almost seemed to forget the world around her. Bran respected that kind of devotion, especially when the object of devotion was as noble a cause as animal healing. He looked at her when she checked her wallet to see how much money she had. She seemed to think that she was paying for herself. This would only be the second time that they had gone out to lunch together, but he still wasn't going to make her pay. It just wasn't him. He knew that she would tell him that she would buy her own food, but he would not allow it. Call him old-fashioned, but it just seemed wrong to him for a woman to buy herself a meal.
They left the office and went to the elevators. There were only two other people in it with them, but it still seemed crowded, and Bran felt extremely uncomfortable. It didn't matter that he had to ride one multiple times each day. He would never get used to feeling like he was about to be crushed. He and Chase left the elevator when it arrived at the Atrium and began walking towards the exits in silence. Bran was getting very worried about her. He had thought about it at least twice already today, but he knew that she wasn't eating enough. If she didn't start eating more than she could very well die in the next week or so. Well, Bran wasn't going to let that happen, not to his friend. As they approached the fireplaces to exit the Ministry, he decided to break the silence. "You don't actually think that you're buying your lunch, do you?"
