Athena sheepishly met Pricilla’s mirth filled gaze and she looked curiously at the girl, baffled by the look on her face. Athena mouthed a few words to her friend and Pricilla returned, accompanying her words with a few gestures. Athena swore at her and lifted her eyes to the boys who were battling it out again. She gave a heavy sigh and slapped Darius’ hand away, her patience with him waning considerably as his words became more offensive to her than they did to Kendall. As fun as it was to wind each other up and as quick as Athena was willing to get involved, she wasn’t completely heartless no matter how hard she tried to dress herself up this way. First and foremost, she was embarrassed and though she tried not to show it, her ears were suitably read and that blush was quickly moving across her cheeks and onto her neck. She found that her shoes were incredibly interesting...and certainly something safer to look at.
“Yours is barely higher than mine, Kendall,” Darius retorted. Athena rolled her eyes, knowing the likelihood of that wasn’t very high. She crossed her arms over her chest and caught her bottom lip between her teeth again, stifling the words that she knew Darius would take little notice of anyway. “It doesn’t take a genius to work out some things...or decide things...especially when they’re right in front of you.”
Athena’s eyes snapped up to Kendall’s when his clipped protest added to the tension. She’d learned how to block out Darius and so she didn’t miss it. Athena swallowed and tugged on a curl of her hair before glancing up at Darius who was wearing that self-satisfied smirk again. Athena sighed heavily and rubbed her arm before dropping her arms back down to her sides. As much as she disliked the situation, she couldn’t bring herself to walk away. She wanted to see it play out and, though she’d never admit it, she wanted to see Kendall trump Darius; the bastard.
Screaming anyone’s name wasn’t something Athena did as a rule...unless said person had a stroke of luck. Darius could make someone writhe but he wasn’t as good as he thought he was. He could tide anyone over for a suitable amount of time but he couldn’t even make the screamers scream – if that made any sense.
“Why would I wish to objectify someone who is already objectified?” Darius replied easily, making Athena freeze up. “She’s a Pureblood woman, Rookwood – they’re there to be traded like cattle. Or did you forget? Bedding all of those Halfies must have riddled you with something other than crabs.” Darius sneered. “Daddy Goyle will find little Thea a nice man and she’ll be the good little broodmare she is...won’t she?” He squeezed Athena to him and she closed her eyes, honestly wishing a black hole would swallow her up right there. She pushed against him and let out a small sound that was mixed with embarrassment, indignation, struggle and hurt.
A strangled cry died in Pricilla’s throat and she looked at Tobias with wide eyes, searching his face to see if he thought the same. Tobias looked over at Kendall, imploring silently for the fool to do something. Pricilla’s hand came down on Tobias’s should and he looked down at her to see her eyes glistening with tears. The Pureblood girls...they knew they were cattle...they’d known it from the day they were born. That didn’t make it any easier to hear though did it?
“Darius,” Tobias spoke, his voice gruff. “Stop. Now.” He took Pricilla’s hand in his and laced his fingers with his. He squeezed her hand and pulled her to him. She folded into his chest easily and tried to hide herself in his dinner jacket.
“Why should I?” Darius responded. “I’m trying to prove a point here...he’s just making it difficult.”
No, Tobias thought scathingly as he watched Athena continue to struggle against him. You are.
“Oh yes, Rookwood, I think about your bollocks all day – every day. As does this little minx I don’t doubt.” He smirked down at Athena and barely flinched as she hit her fist against him. “Calm down there, pet...anyone would think you didn’t want me.”
Darius raised an eyebrow at Kendall and forced Athena away from him, placing her in the middle of their little circle. She stumbled a little but managed to keep her footing in the sky-scrapers – something Pricilla was immensely grateful for. Athena rounded on Darius and flung her hand out. It connected with his cheek, making a loud CLAP and she watched gleefully as his cheek instantly reddened.
“You bastard,” she spat. Darius had a quick reaction time but not nearly as quick as Athena who, as her father had once joked, should have been a Keeper. As he started towards her, her other hand came out and connected with his other cheek. She placed her hands on his shoulders and brought her knee up between his legs, this time not missing. Athena brought her lips to his ear and hissed as her eyes began to overflow with salty tears, “That’s for the Mudblood.”
She pushed Darius away from her with all of the strength she possessed and broke out into a run that was slightly muted by the heels. She ran past Tobias and Pricilla and disappeared through the back door. Pricilla lifted her head from Tobias’ chest and she turned, slapping Darius herself. Tobias put his hands on her shoulders and grabbed their friend by the scruff of the neck. He looked at him with obvious distaste and pushed Darius towards the front door.
“Let’s not have a repeat of this shall we? Cilla...Obliviate the Ravenclaw. Sorry Kendall...I know she’s your shag but she can’t remember something like that. I’ll deal with this piece of shit.” He leaned down to Darius and patted him on the cheek before smiling sadistically at him. “Shall we go and pay a visit to ‘Daddy Goyle’, buddy?” Darius groaned. “Yeah, yeah I know...It hurts doesn’t it? A few rounds of the Cruciatus will set you straight I don’t doubt. Let’s just hope Polly loves you enough not to let him kill you. But then again...I’d be more worried about her if I were you.” He pushed Darius out of the door and quirked an eyebrow at him as he collapsed on the ground. “Pathetic.” He muttered.
Pricilla hopped over to him and he kissed her soundlessly before breaking the kiss and blowing a piece of her hair out of her eyes. “Mine tonight?” He murmured, rubbing his thumb across her cheekbone. She nodded with a coy smile and Tobias smiled before kissing her again. “Alright. I’ll pick you up in a couple of hours. I love you. Someone go and check on Thea please – or at least find her? I’ll deal with the scumbag.”
And with that, Tobias departed with Darius in hand. Pricilla looked at Kendall sheepishly and took her wand from her pocket. “Sorry, sweetie.” She apologised sheepishly. “If you want to go and see Thea then I will modify this one's memory so she thinks she got lucky with you. It should improve the rumour mill spectacularly. Go! It’s freezing out there!” She waved him away with her wand and smiled brightly at Jeanine. “So sorry about this – well, not really. I never really liked you. Come on..let’s go and find you a bed to wake up in.”
