Things had not entirely returned to normal, but it seemed for that shining moment that it was possible. Reid was quite skilled at regaining control of a situation, and so, even though Calvin was still plagued by a deep-routed fear that Chase and the children were in harm's way, he could not fight the smile that graced his face as he looked up at his flat mate. The two of them had talked about visiting the comic shop over pizza one evening, but neither of them had actually acted on the idea - and as it turned out, it was a blessing that the two of them had been too lazy to pay the place a visit before then; there couldn't have been a better way to lighten Calvin's suddenly heavy heart, than to purchase a new comic book.
Calvin's eyes lit up with excitement, and suddenly, the pain in his arm was forgotten, and he was on his feet - but the letter that he still clutched closely to his chest had not been forgotten, and was in Calvin's eyes far more important than entertainment. "We've got to owl it first, Reid..." he reminded him, though Reid had already made it clear that they would mail Chase her letter beforehand. Calvin stood there for a moment, trying desperately to contain the sudden explosion of energy that had built up within him, but it seemed that he was no match for his excitement, and it suddenly burst free; "I'm going to get a new Batman comic book!" he screamed, much in the way a child would when being offered candy, "and Iron Man, Superman, Spiderman, X-Men", he continued, singing aloud the names of every comic book that he could think of at the time.
Chase had left Calvin, and the children had been ripped from Calvin's life at the same time, and yet, Reid had found a way to make it that much easier for Calvin to cope with the sudden lose of his loved ones. As he'd done for as long as Calvin and Reid had ever known each other, Reid had put Calvin back together when he'd been broken... even if it'd been Calvin's heart this time around, rather than just another one of his bones...
Calvin gave his new stuffed dinosaur a squeeze, and grinned in Reid's direction, "We're going to send Chase a letter," he sang in that nasally voice of his, growing louder and louder with each verse of his made-up song, "and then we're going to go to the comic book store - to get more comics!" Calvin threw both his newly-mended arm, and his good arm up in the air enthusiastically, "We're going to save the day! We're going to save Chase, and Theirry, and Fauve, and Kitty, and we'll all be together again! - And with comic books!"
Calvin never had been too skilled at writing...
