Khaat apparated herself and Jess to her office. "Make yourself at home, Jess. I'll tell Hannah you're here. If you want anything at all, she'll take care of you." Khaat went out to her secretary's desk and told Hannah that Jess was there. Hannah went in and introduced herself to Jess and offered to get her coffee. She then reported to Khaat that the board of trustees was in the conference room waiting for her.
"I guess that's my cue. We're scheduled for about an hour," Khaat told Jess," So you have plenty of time. Make yourself at home. I"m just going to be down the hall in the conference room--the room on the other side of Daddy's office." She left and went down the hallway and into the conference room.
To her surprise, the trustees were chained in their chairs and silenced with magical spells. She was about to react, when the door slammed shut, and a wand thrust sharply into the side of her neck.
"You are so stupid," the voice hissed. It was all too familiar.
"Burke," Khaat replied, angry, unafraid. "What the hell do you want?"
"What I always want. You," he laughed.
"So kill me and get it overwith," she sighed. "You bore me."
"Oh, not just yet. We do have a whole room full of audience members. I think we should entertain them, don't you?"
"Not particularly," Khaat said, reaching her wand in her pocket. She drew it, but Burke backhanded her so hard that it hurled her into the wall with a loud bang. She felt instant pain and slid down the wall, her wand rolling under the conference table.
"Come on, Kitty," Burke grabbed her by her hair and hoisted her brutally to her feet. "Time to play. Where do you think Barker learned what he knows? He was a rather interesting student, but he does have much to learn. So where shall we start? Broken bones, blood letting, or just screaming?"
